I love how Parcells gets medals for squeezing all he could out of that broken down old jalopy of a team... But the minute Wade was hired, it suddenly became a Ferrari.

Except for the fact that Bill Parcells was given the key to an old Ford Granada.

Wade Phillips was handed a Jaguar.

Bills best year was with that old Ford Granada ......

Wade was given a muscle car starter kit and swapped the parts for a minivan.

Parcells gets credit for building the team and re-hauling the organization. Very few are painting him out to be Vince Lombardi on the sidelines here. His team flubbed December in 2006 too, and part of it was his schemes got figured out and he couldn't adjust.

It what Wade is letting happen off the field that is as much if not more of a problem then what Bill let happen on it.

BUt there is no arguing Wade was handed one of the most talented rosters in the league on paper.

Such sound logic is not allowed on this board.

Parcells squeezed out all he could with the 2003 team. By 2006, he had put together one of the most talented teams in the league. Romo fumbled it away in Seattle (and you can't blame Parcells for that).

Phillips has done nothing but turn this back into a 9-7 team. BTW, since the Packers game last year, we are 10-10 including the playoffs.

maybe I have been frozen for the last 6 years and recently thawed out.....but we were good with Bill Parcells? He had a major hand in getting us back to respectabilty....but we were still a highly penalized team....we still were average on special teams.....many of our games were nail biters...and finally, we did nto win a playoff game. If I am wrong about this...will someone please correct me

mountain and molehill come to mind on the whole Romo wanting to go for it?
Firstly we should have gone for it. Next i'm pretty sure we converted but most of all i have seen Peyton manning do that a thousand times and nobody ever thinks he's undermining Tony Dungy. Its just double standards beavuse the media can run with it cos its the cowboys.

More BS reporting of a NON_STORY!

Groan... Not going to get into Bill Parcells debate number one billion and one...

My contention isn't with the job he did in 2003. That was without doubt a great coaching job.

My contention is with this "Wade was handed the keys to a Jaguar" talk. When did the transformation from Yugo to Jaguar occur?

To some, it seems to have been from January 23, 2007 to February 9, 2007.

Or in other words... If this was, in your own words, "one of the most talented teams in the league on paper", why couldn't Parcells win even one playoff game with it?

Does anyone here really believe that Bill Parcells wouldn't have won a Playoff Game in 2 Seasons if he started out with the team Wade Phillips did?

Bill Parcells' track record is just too strong to believe that.

Because he didn't get a good QB until the last half of the last season. And then came within a botched FG snap away from winning one.

Also, Jerry opened up the checkbook for a $50M RG. Parcells had to go whole seasons with guys like Pettitti and Tucker.

Wade had 13 guys go to the Pro Bowl and still managed to be the first #1 seed in history to get bounced in the first round. And then with more talent added to the roster he turned in this cluster-*** of a season.

And TBH I think Bill got a little lucky in 2003 like Miami did this year - a cupcake schedule and the rest of our division other than Philly was awful. We got creamed by every talented team we played that year.

But I would have liked to see him coach a full year with Romo as a starter to compare apples to apples with Wade.

Ugh. Why is it always that Parcells "had to go" multiple seasons with scrubs even though HE was the one in charge of the roster? You guys act like his roster was drawn out of a hat or something. Players like Petitti and Tucker were HIS decisions!

And Wade's 13 Pro Bowlers were primarily because we won so much, not because those were all great players. How many of those 13 players were new to the roster? Two?

Everybody knows it happens every year that generally speaking, the best teams at the time of Pro Bowl voting get the most Pro Bowlers. That's why guys like Michael Lewis made it a few years ago, even though the Eagles quickly looked to replace him.

You guys want to play this shell game when it comes to Parcells. Parcells built this GREAT roster... But wait, he couldn't win a playoff game with them. So maybe they weren't that great. It must have been because they were too stupid. But wait, Bill was the one selecting those stupid players. Uh, where was I?

Anyway, I said I wasn't getting into it, so...

Fine I'll end it with -

No one ever said the 2006 roster was a jalopy until you did in this thread.

The original car reference was to the slop Bill was handed in 2003, not to who was on the team in 2006.

Bill didn't have Adams (for most of a season) or Colombo (who he brought in)did he? Good 'ol Wade did.

I'll agree with that. The more you win, the more your players get noticed. It's obviosu that while 13 went, 13 weren't all deserved.

Is it really off-base to say that Phillips inherited a better team than Parcells did?

Honestly?

It's like suggesting Barry Switzer started off on equal footing with Dave Campo!
