My guess is between Ball, Mickens, and Williams we'll find another CB who can contribute this year. But don't write any checks yet.

You guess. I hope. We'll be alright without Mr. Shoulder Shrug.

Here we go with the off the wall comparisons... :) On one extreme you have the rook that made himself infamous with his lack of desire to tackle Derrick Ward when getting spanked as if he didn't even care to be out on the field. On the other hand you have a perennial HOFer that made a living shutting down one half of the field... The rook has a long way to go before he can be mentioned in the same conversation as Deion... Even if they do, at first glance appear to share the same lack of intestinal fortitude with open field tackling.
i'm just saying cause you're judging him off one play. he played better as the season went on.

Actually it's more me judging Scandrick off of multiple plays.

You would think Jenkins was terrible if you listened to some people or some in the media, but we both know that wasn't even close to the case.

I'll say it again.

Mike Jenkins is a bigger, faster, and younger version of Asante Samuel, and he's going to make teams pay for throwing his way. His north/south burst is explosive. His long arms and size will allow him to cover bigger WRs (see his coverage on Larry Fitzgerlad last year when he covered him in that game). Jenkins runs a 4.38 and can run with you and catch up to you. He held up inside nicely last year, too.

I don't know about Samuel, but Jenkins made some big plays last year that everyone chooses to forget b/c they'd rather obsess over a lame attempt at a tackle.

Scandrick was a really, really good player for us, and both of these guys show potential. There's no denying Jenkins has the prototypical size and speed, and I think it's the right idea to start him in place of Henry.

and besides Scandrick is a better fit in the slot since he's super quick and not all that big, while Jenkins is tall and linear

whatever the case may be, I think we found 2 very good corners for the present and future

but unfortunately there is always a division among who fans choose to root for at the same position, 1st it was Quincy and Hutch, Romo and Henson, Crayton or Copper

Should be Scandrick v. Newman in this case, since they're more similar players.

Good points, especially the bold part and well said.

Jenkins and Scandrick both played some really good football last year.

Asante Samuel is a great north and south player. He reads, reacts, and jumps. Whey you attack Samuel from the sideline to the edge of the numbers or just outside the numbers, you are asking for trouble. He plays great down hill. He jumps routes and ends up running the other way. When Samuel plays, watch some teams attack him with in-cuts. They are trying to make him cover more ground and prevent him from playing down hill from just outside the numbers to the sideline.

I noticed Mike Jenkins ability to play like Samuel when I looked at some of his South Florida clips. He reminded me of Samuel the first time I studied him. Jenkins is faster than Samuel, and he plays great down hill, too. Jenkins can read, react, and jump routes with great explosion. (The Pick 6 on Eli Manning was vintage Samuel.)

Ty Law would have been proud, too. It looked like a play Law (Kansas City) made on Peyton Manning in the playoffs. I think Asante Samuel made the same type of play on Manning in a playoff game, too. Both players played with the Patriots. There was a reason Bill Belichek personally flew to South Florida and met with Jenkins. However, the Patriots usually don't draft CBs early, and Jerod Mayo was a linebacker. Nevertheless, Belichek kicked Jenkins' tires for sure. He saw that explosive down hill play.

One of the things about Jenkins that should excite everyone is this. He held up nicely when he played inside last year. He showed the catchup or recovery speed in the open field. This guy is really fast. He can really run (4.38). Samuel isn't best suited for the slot. He doesn't have the great speed. That is why teams try to run inside routes on him or in-cuts. He has to cover more ground.

Anyway, I really am high on Mike Jenikins. I think he can be a star. He had a pick 6 in his third start. I can't wait for teams to attack Mike Jenkins from the sideline to just outside the numbers. They are going to pay.

Mike Jenkins reads, reacts, and explodes against Auburn in the fourth quarter of a tie game.

Can you say interception and first and goal inside the one?

Mike Jenkins probably is the 1st CB taken in this year's draft

He's got great recovery speed, and long arms, like you say. I think he's going to be a good player, too.

Jenkins has potential. Scandrick played to his potential last year. Jenkins just needs to step it up. I wouldn't be surprised to see both of them starting at some point soon. Tnew isn't getting any younger.

Scout has to go to work now. Bye bye.
