If you believe in omens, Pacman Jones' performance at Jason Witten's SCORE Foundation All-Star Bowl 2008 was an awfully good one.

Pacman walked out of the bowling alley a winner. His score of 189 was announced as the best among the celebrities, but Patrick Crayton claimed a 190.

They quickly decided to settle it on the lanes. One roll, with the prize of a PlayStation 3 at stake.

Pacman jogged over to get his customized ball (a yellow beauty with a skull inside) and calmly rolled a strike. ("Nice to have you, Pac," master of ceremonies/voice of America's Team Brad Sham said.) Since this was for a great cause, I won't reveal how many pins were left standing after Crayton's roll.

So there you have it. Pacman was a big winner in his first athletic competition around these parts.

Follow the jump for other tidbits from the bowling bash, one or two of which might actually have something to do with football.

*FB Deon "Cricket" Anderson's crew won the team prize. He was fortunate to get grouped with some serious bowlers who won tickets to the event from ESPN 103.3. But Cricket was strutting around with the three-inch glass trophy like he'd just won the Super Bowl, hollering and high-fiving his teammates. I just wish that guy would loosen up a bit.

*OG Leonard "Bigg" Davis explained that the secret to his bowling success was "brute force." Well, my man Bigg rolled back-to-back gutter balls when I went to watch him. In his defense, USA Bowl didn't have size 18 shoes, so he had to bowl in his Nikes.

*The silent auction featured an autographed Eli Manning picture, of all things. Last I checked, it didn't get any bids.

*Second-year OT Jim Marten was showing off his guns in a lavender Lacoste shirt. Marten has lived in the weight room this off-season, bulking up to 315 pounds. He was down to 285 late last season.

*Tank Johnson, who hung around Pacman for much of the night, has one of the strangest bowling motions I've ever seen. He stutter-steps like a point guard trying to set up a defender on the fast break right before rolling. But he's a pretty good bowler.

*Punter Mat McBriar scolded me for letting Albert "Einstein" Breer take control of this here blog during the off-season.

Witten rolls strike with charity bash

You expect an NFL Man of the Year finalist to throw one heck of a charity bash. Jason Witten's SCORE Foundation 2008 All-Star Bowl lived up to those lofty standards.

The event, which Witten plans to make an annual deal, was a ton of fun and raised close to $300,000 for SCORE Foundation. Witten said the proceeds would be split between The Family Place, a Dallas shelter for women and children, and building a learning center in a Boys and Girls Club.

"I associate with a lot of good people and good companies," Witten said. "It's just neat to see it pay off this way."

As Einstein noted, the number of players that showed up was a pretty good indication of how much Witten's teammates respect the Pro Bowl tight end. Tony Romo, Witten's road roomie, hustled over to the bowling alley after arriving home from a wedding you can read all about in the tabloids.

And Romo was a star of the live auction at the end of the night. A gentleman paid $7,500 for a Romo jersey that the QB autographed on the spot. A blonde lady who wasn't famous paid $3,500 for the honor of catching a Romo pass. Romo autographed the ball and soft-tossed it five yards into her hands.
But the biggest prize was a dinner with Witten and his lovely wife, Michelle, with the winning couple getting a night at the posh Gaylord Texan. That fetched $12 grand.

Bowling with Pacman
According to his new teammates, suspended cornerback Adam ''Pacman'' Jones fit in well with the Cowboys at tight end Jason Witten's charity bowling event Sunday night.

''He was a nice guy,'' linebacker Bobby Carpenter said.

Although he can't play with the Cowboys yet, he is ready to challenge for the best bowler on the team distinction. Pacman bowled an impressive 189.
