Parcells not surprised by Romo's resiliency
Superstar columnist Tim Cowlishaw checked in Bill Parcells to see what the grumpy old coach thought of Tony Romo's performance against the Giants. The Tuna didn't quite break out the anointing oil, but he had some nice things to say.
"You don't ever know for sure how a guy's going to respond," Parcells said.
"But I thought he was enough of an emotional guy, a 'What's Next' kind of guy, like a baseball pitcher. 'What's the next pitch, what do we throw now?'
"The way last season ended, a thing like that can ruin a player. But I didn't think that would happen to Tony."
No matter what you think of Parcells, you've got to give him credit for leaving a long-awaited franchise QB at Valley Ranch.
Sure, the scouts, Sean Payton and David Lee deserve props for signing Romo as an undrafted free agent and grooming him. But Parcells is the guy that kept Romo on the roster as a rookie and eventually promoted him over Drew Henson, Jerry's much-hyped bonus baby. And Parcells pulled the trigger on making Romo the starter over Jerry's objections last season.
That's part of the reason Romo never took shots at Parcells while other Cowboys fired away following his departure.
