Tony Romo spoke to the media Thursday. We'll have several installments as to what he said over the course of the day.

Here's the first.

"Anybody who has gone through this or played the position for an extended period of time knows what this is like,'' Romo said of the atmosphere the week after a loss. "I heard Troy Aikman say one time, 'I don't know that a lot of people in the building even know what you go through some times.'

"It's a fair assessment in some ways because not unlike the head coach, you get a lot of the blame and a lot of the credit. Whether it's right or wrong, who knows. But I do know that people are going to talk about it and that's part of the position.

"I love to talk to Troy and some of the other guys just to gain an understanding of what their psyche was, their mind, and different areas to help try and improve, to help yourself go through the process in the right way. You know, the neat thing when I talk to them is they didn't all have...it wasn't all lollipops and chocolate and fun times along the way. It was a lot of hard work and effort and people beating you down.

"You have to have a stronger belief in yourself than the disbelief of others. I think that's part of the mental makeup you have to have to play the position and move forward.''

Cowboys QB Romo talks about last play against Denver ... again

Brandon George/Reporter Bio | E-mail | News tips

Of course, Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was asked again Thursday about the final play of the Denver game Sunday.

A reporter asked him if he knew it was fourth down (as you know, after the play, he put up three fingers, etc.) ...

Romo laughed before later saying, "Believe me, if I thought it was third down, I would have been screaming and hollering for everyone to get back on the field," he said. "Obviously, we need to get the ball into the end zone on one of those plays, and we're very disappointed that we didn't. We're going to look at it and we're going to be better the next time we get in that situation."

He needs to stop thinking about his time with Jessica and start thinking about Football.

Man, I hope he pulls through this rough patch. This start is not indicative of the makeup of this 2009 team. Especially when you consider the losses and how competitive the team has been in them. Couple that with the fact that the Cowboys have yet to play their best ball yet the majority of fans and media alike has written them off.

If Romo is able to right the ship and the defense stays tough, the Cowboys will be in every game this season. They learn how to win those games and this season seems to have Super Bowl run written all over it. Just take one game at a time.

It all starts this week in Kansas City.

Thought I was the only lunatic who still hasn't counted out the big prize at the end of the year. Thanks.

Whatever will JJT do now?
Complain that Romo didn't speak to the media on Wednesday or Tuesday or Monday. Heck, he'd even say Sunday if he thought it would bump up his readership numbers.

Claim that Tony only talked to the media Thursday because of the bad press he got for not talking to local media on Wednesday.

I'm not even kidding. This is how JJT and his media brethren operate.

Those are encouraging comments from Romo, I have to say
As far as I'm concerned Tony's public comments are designed to be defensive and to shut the media out from any vulnerability they think he might have. I believe they reflect what he needs people to believe he's thinking more than what's actually going on in his head and I think this dates back to last season.

I don't blame the guy because it's a survival tactic in an atmosphere where he and the Cowboys are treated like celebrities in a soap opera instead of athletes. It's just that I'll believe his rhetoric matches reality when the decisionmaking and the results show it consistently.

I have and will continue to stick with Romo. He is having a difficult time what ever the reason and he has to find a way out of this and I think he will.

Well that is GREAT news.

Last year it was "blah blah blah... all about the journey blah blah blah...."

I see he is getting comfortable with important stuff.

Shut up and play Tony. Talk is cheap.

He is talking to the media because it is required. When people felt he was avoiding the media they blasted him and now when he says something he gets blasted.

I hope he goes absolutely nuts on KC this weekend. Give me some good feelings about this team to get me through the bi-week Tony!

If he starts producing fans will follow. Some of us just choose to stick by our guy during the tough times.

For me, its easy to stick by him. From what I have seen there is greatness there. His wounds are for the most part "self inflicted". I am banking on that he will fix this at some point.
