Eskimo;2069870 said:Campo did a great job with the secondary his first go around here. He was the one that put together our seconday for our 90s championship teams. He got great play out of Larry Brown, a 12th rounder. He had Kevin Smith on the cusp of the Pro Bowl before the Achilles injury. He converted Woodson from LB to safety. He got great production out of Tomas Everett, James Washington, Brock Marion, Kenny Gant, etc.
He did a good job as DC but I think his best work was as secondary coach. I was really excited when I heard we were bringing him back to his old job (not HC, of course).
The guy actually didn't even do so bad a job as a HC. Those teams had only a handful of NFL quality players. We were hamstrung by bad contracts and the salary cap situation. We gave away two 1st rounders for Galloway so he didn't even get to bring in any impact top-10 players until his last year when we got Roy - btw, rookie year was arguably his best.
Campo is always someone that I have a soft spot for. I think he was unfairly criticized for his stint at HC here. No one could have done all that much with that roster. Plus, he was 6/6 against the Skins.
Watch this video and you will see why he is beaten Jenkins in practice. He specializes in beaten defenders that play off coverages but struggle with press coverage(Jenkins specialty that he wasn't allowed to do this weekend).Spectre;2069663 said:I didn't like the Jenkins pick to begin with.
Now he's getting used by an UDFA and outperformed by a 5th rounder.

I wonder how many people are down on Felix just because they wanted the other guy on his team? I really do. What if Mendenhall had been in a shared backfield? You think he'd have been a 1st round pick? What if he shared it with Felix? You think he would have then?CaptainAmerica;2069730 said:I posted yesterday a blog entry before the draft from a Chicago paper that said the Bears long-time SW area scout said Felix was "special" and the writer mentioned the scout doesn't often use that term.
Interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing him in TC and pre-season.

I honestly don't. He benefited by being the featured RB in his Offense.
If both Jones and Mendenhall had returned for their Senior years and were featured RBs, who do you think would go higher? It wouldn't have shocked me at all if Felix ranked higher on most Draft boards. It really wouldn't. I think without sharing the load with McFadden he's probably a top 10 RB.

I could live with that. And you know how picky I am.MichaelWinicki;2070176 said:Exactly right.
By the end of this season there are going to be many doubters who change their minds about this kid-- as he becomes one of the truly explosive players in the NFL.
People wouldn't do that, would they?Hostile;2070151 said:I wonder how many people are down on Felix just because they wanted the other guy on his team?

It'll be tough to beat the Curse of 22, but Jones got off to a good start.
