Tom Landry never "fired his guys up". He believed it was his job to prepare them for the upcoming opponent, but a professional player's job to motivate himself.

And like your second paragraph says, TO isn't going to work with a dictator type anyway. We know how that turns out.

that is true, so we can pretty much throw TO's take on Wade out the window

but still the motivation has to come from somewhere, and I don't think it's coming from Wade, as he treats everyone like a man, until they screw up, in otherwords is nonchalant w/ you until you mess up, alot of people can get around that...

and when has TO ever worked on fear? Parcells, Todd Haley, the San Fran O-coordinator were fiery individuals who he clashed w/
Parcells and Johnson have a track record of championships. Phillips has had no such success.

What we've seen as fans is that Phillips is fairly nonchalant with everyone, screw up or not.

Players weren't primadonas (sp) back in those days. They played for pride, not the check.

What we have seen is 1 year and 5 games. There is no one way to coach a team and Phillips should be judge on the overall results. Hopefully come Late Jan. Phillips critics will be hushed once and for all.

Good ol' days alert!

Please -- human nature doesn't change. There were plenty of primadonnas who played for money back then.

Why do you say that?

because TO has never not did something based on fear

he's never feared any coach

but all of a sudden, he's afraid of Coach, "don't screw up, and I won't yell at you" Phillips?

not for this type of money

w/ the chance to earn it again another 3-5 years

free agency kind of ****ed the game up

Lab, I was going to post the same thing basically. Good thing I decided to browse the rest of the thread before I replied. Couldn't have said it better anyway :)

Yeah they made tons and had great retirement plans. That's the reason the NFL is looking for ways to help them.

FYI

"Up until the mid 1970s, salary ranges of $20,000 to about maybe $60,000 were usually the norm for these players. Reports from various news entities say that maybe thirty years ago the average salary was $30,000. Yet for many of these players, it still took a second job for many of these players to survive and run their households."
