DMN blog stuff... reaction from todays pc

Just to clarify, I don't know one way or another. Meriweather may be a problem child. I just don't know. From some of the things I have read and heard, I'm not sure he was/is quite as bad as some made him out to be...

I don't know, I just can't get the image of that brawl out of my head whenever people start salivating over Meriwether.

As I've been saying, blah. Blah to Meriwether and just about everybody else that will likely be available at 22.

I hope we trade out of the first for a number 1 next year. Future picks are way undervalued IMO.

I agree with you about future picks being undervalued some. I don't want to trade our number one this year and loose out on two players capable of helping the pass rush and pass coverage this year. I think we have a chance to go deep into the playoffs this year. I don't want to jeopardize that. I do think you have to look to the future.

It would be good to have two number ones next year though.

How do you think we would do a deal netting us two number ones next year?

I haven't been on this board much lately but I swear this guy was getting bashed on here like last week? Bad character and bad wonderlic and he was slipping into the 2nd? Or am I just imagining that I read that from more than a few folks?

I think he'd be listed as a Safety and eventually play opposite RW on first downs.

I think he's viewed as very capable of moving to the slot on coverage downs. I think that is where he's viewed as being like a CB.

But I don't see him being a full time CB as in Henry/TNew. It's really blurry there IMO as he might play more like a CB in some games than as a true Safety.

Meriweather, Landry and Nelson could play CB if forced into it IMO. But they are safeties.

Wow. Landry is a safety. He'd get eaten alive if he had to matchup against WRs regularly. No way in hell could he play CB. He's way too big and doesn't turn anywhere near good enough to play CB.

After watching that Yahoo highlight video, the thing I kept noticing is that he celebrates after every play be it a tackle, pick or just a hard hit and the WR caught the ball.

I think Hamlin/Watkins will be fine at FS this year.

....I think the Cowboys take Miami safety Brandon Meriweather in the first round.
Here's why: He can play corner, safety, special teams. The last time the Cowboys had one of those guys his name was Darren Woodson. Now Meriweather's character will be an issue after the incident with Florida International and some gun play, but the Cowboys had him in for a visit. Jerry met with him personally and called him a "unique," player.
Of course, it's Monday, so I reserve the right to change my mind by the end of the week.

I kind of agree with Todd on this. I think Jerry is starting to fall in love with this player - the same way he fell in love with Quincy and the same way Parcells well in love with Jacob Rogers. The real question is, if the Cowboys do not take him at #22, does Meriweather fall into the early 2nd round? If the answer is "yes", then do you trade down to grab him if he truly is the player you want??

That seems to be a consistent trend among player from "The U"

Meriweather would make things interesting if he slips to 22, I've always dreamed of having a ball-hawking free safety that just made plans. I love Watkins potential, but Meriweather certainly has a knack for making big plays.

Well, I, for one, am not sure whether or not some of the off-field issues were blown way out of proportion.

1) He popped off a round at somebody who apparently shot and wounded a buddy of his... now, I have no problem with him defending himself, but of course this means he was running around with a concealed weapon...

Even if he had a permit for it, I don't want players who live the kind of life where they HAVE to run around armed... this tells me that he makes a habit of hanging out in some very bad places, and associates with some very bad people...

2) We all SAW him stomp that player in the head as he was laying on the ground; there's no "blowing that out of proportion", it really happened... he's a junior grade Albert Haynesworth, and I'll bet you were REALLY down on Haynesworth when he raked his cleats over Gurode's face... if so, how is what Merriweather did any different?? Both involved completely gutless assaults on a prone, helpless opponent who wasn't posing ANYBODY any threat...

Merriweather is a suspension waiting to happen, just another thug from the U... if Jerry is serious about what he said about staying away from character problems this year, he HAS to stay away from Brandon... conversely, if he does draft this thug, then we'll know that he doesn't give ANY consideration to character issues after all...

I doubt we could get two future ones for our current pick, if that's what you mean. Just one extra, like the Buffalo trade. Jerry says he has two offers on the table that he's considering the opportunity is there -- unless he's fibbing.

If you trade and drop out of the first round, you get, presumably, a good solid WR in the 2nd round, where value is. It's definitely worth considering.

i think merriweather is the best DB in the draft its just his charachter that is the problem.. i think hes better than landry and better than hall too... if it wasnt for his character hed be a 10-15 pick
No way, no shape, no how.

Meriweather will be a beast, I don't know if he's worth the 22nd pick, but none of the guys that I would like to see us pick seem worth the 22nd pick. I'd love to trade down, but if not I hope Jerry picks either Spencer or Meriweather.

And just to clear something up real quick, stop callin these guys thugs. All the guys that r generally thought of as thugs are not. Rappers aren't thugs, athletes aren't thugs. U could run into those guys in the street and actually say something to em. A real thug, u probably piss ur pants and cross the street. Or maybe u might want to get ur registered weapon and keep it on u just in case. I'm sure that no card carrying NRA member ever keeps his/her weapon concealed please!:banghead:

What u r doing is almost as bad as Imus calling Rutgers bball team a bunch of nappy headed hoes. For me it wasn't upsetting becuz of race issues, it was upsetting cuz he was insulting some educated women, hoes r *******es. Ur takin a kid that just went thru 3 or 4 years of higher education and describing him as some uneducated guy out on the corner.

How good is Meriweather?

I don't recall watching many Miami games.

I have seen him play since he first got to Miami he is a good player, he can FS or CB he had some off field issues his last year which raises a red flag but he would help the Cowboys this year

This post calls for one of those "hammer hitting a nail" pictures, but I find it a tad too hokey to use on any consistent basis.

Silverbear is right. There are some on the board that like him, some like him who "hate him". Then there are folks like me who don't know the kid. Never had an opportunity to sit down and interview him or former coaches, teammates, classmates, neighbors, teachers, principals, friends, family etc. Lucky for him the NFL owners get a chance to do that prior to the draft.

I know what everyone else knows. I know he lawfully possesses a weapon. I know the police in Dade County felt he did nothing unlawful when he fired his weapon in self-defense. I know he acted like an *** in the FIU game and behaved in a deplorable manner. I also know that of ALL the players involved in the brawl on both teams, he is the ONLY ONE to issue a written apology. I know that the school nor his former Coach Larry Coker even knew about his letter.

I have NO idea how his interviews have gone. I do know that Jerry Jones must not have been too disturbed by him or the info he gathered on him or Meriweather would have been on the list of players Jerry said he crossed out due to character. I have NO idea what NFL security has found out about him in their very detailed investigative search.

Again, I just hope he has learned from both of these experiences as well as the death of his teammate this past season. I hope he matures and stays away from all trouble and has a good career with whatever team that drafts him.

I'd crap my pants if we used a #1 on any safety this year.

We're trying to find out about Watkins and the FA we signed...please don't waste a #1 pick on another safety.

If we're going to go DB, then make it a freakin' CB since Glenn is getting older and Henry hasn't played as well recently and the backups aren't viewed as starters...we need a CB...at least then we could move Henry to FS if neither of the other two step up and prolong his own career.

Personally...I want either Houston, CB, one of the WR's, or a pass rusher (Moss or Spencer). If we can't get one of them, then trade down.

I'm not buying the FS talk either... and I don't care if he is an athletic "freak" like Meriweather (who really isn't by the way) and didn't come up with enough big plays in college (IMO) to be considered at #22. I'd take a WR, a corner or Spencer before I'd take Meriweather.

Personally I want a CB in round one because I am concerned about Henry's age and injuries as well as the age of Aaron Glenn. I would love D. Revis or A. Ross to be honest because I know they can contribute in the PR game and in the Nickel and Dime packages.

In reference to the FS spot, I am not as high on Watkins as everyone else. I watched him in college (every year he started) and I watched intently last season. My opinion of him is the same as most of the league that saw him as a 5th rounder. He is JAG. One that can help with depth, on special teams and give you a few plays in Nickel or Dime coverages but not a player that will be considered "very good" or "all-pro". IMHO, he will be a solid pro and a player every team should have on its roster. I don't view him as a starter on a good team. The beauty of it is he is only a 5th rounder so he costs us nothing salary capwise. So if he works out great gamble. If not, ...well.

Hamlin, is ok. I see him as Dallas taking a flyer. Similar to M. Coleman last season or T. Parrish late last season. If he works then great. If he doesn't oh well he doesn't count for a lot of cap money anyway and he only has a one year deal.

Dallas has very limited money plugged into that position and no high picks either so if they feel the need to upgrade with a 1st day pick, so be it. And for those who cry about the money and 1st round picks we already have in the secondary, you are probably the same people who want Dallas to spend another 1st round pick on OLB (that would be three straight years).
