Don't quote me on this, but I think it has to do with the CBA and the Club knowing beforehand when a test is being administered...or if the player is in the program.

I recall their being a discussion about this when Quincy was released, because the rumor was that they knew he was about to be fined for a bad test or something like that.
I would think when its just a random test though, the club isn't being informed of anything that is out of the ordinary. It just seems like common sense is that the important thing is to notify the player before the 24 hour limit is up so he doesn't get put in any undo scrutiny. I also think the common place for the test is at the teams facility anyway so the team is going to know.

Do you have 24 hours to call back?

Or do you have 24 hours to stand and deliver?

Which comedian should do a movie on this topic?

The trials and tribulations of a player trying to get his sample in on time.

I've read stories about how tests have been administered during a player's meal. The facility isn't always the common location. And in the offseason, the club isn't always going to know their player is 24/7. Also, not every player is going to be at the facility when it's time to conduct a random test.

But going back to what I said earlier, I believe it's more a CBA issue.

Just watched The Best of Mike & Mike on ESPN. John Clayton reiterated by phone that since Owens doesn't take drugs, he will always test clean. Clayton did point out that because Owens has entered the program, he must be available for random testing 365/24/7; and if he were to miss a random test for any reason, he would face suspension.
