Tashard Choice: 'This year is to let them know I'm for real'

http://cowboysblog.***BANNED-URL***/assets_c/2009/06/tashard10-thumb-200x204-45651.jpgIt took a couple of toe injuries for fourth-rounder Tashard Choice to get a chance as a rookie. He took advantage of it by becoming a bright spot during a gloomy December, proving himself as a legitimate NFL back by racking up 488 total yards in four games.

"I think I established who I am and what I can do," Choice said yesterday. "This year is to let them know that I'm for real."

Marion Barber and Felix Jones are healthy again, but co-head coaches Jerry Jones and Wade Phillips have made it clear that they believe there's room in the RB rotation for Choice.

The Cowboys will count of Barber to be their closer, punishing defenses in the fourth quarter when they're protecting leads. Jones is the big-play threat. How Choice fits in the mix isn't clear right now.

"I don't know exactly how it's gonna go," Choice said, "but if they give me a chance to get in there, I'm going to be ready to roll."

Jones and Barber, who shared time with first-round picks in college, are used to being part of a running back committee. Choice was a workhorse at Georgia Tech, but he believes he can thrive as a part-time player, too.

Choice points to his performance in the Cowboys' win over the Giants. Barber started that game despite his sore toe but struggled mightily (2 yards on eight carries).
Choice racked up 143 yards on 13 touches (nine carries, four catches), including a back-breaking 38-yard TD run.

"I was fresh," Choice said, "and I was ready to go."
He expects that to be the case all season long.

Is it just me or is anyone else tired of the cuteness so called writers put in their articles so that everyone reading knows how they feel about a particular person or subject? It never ends... yes you hate TO, yes you hate Jerry, yes you hate Wade, whatever your agenda is. Give it a rest already.

Choice should be the starter/workhorse ..... Felix the weapon/bigplay ..... and Barber the knockout punch/closer.

Time for Garrett to earn his money in getting all three of them the ball + Roy/Witt/Martel the catches they need to be successful.

Garrett has 6 major weapons to feed on Offense.

Witten
Roy
Martel
Felix
Choice
Barber

Looks like a nice problem to have.

And if he cannot do it (and I do not doubt he will) Then time to get the next offensive genius in here (along with a new head coach)

a lot of fans eat that garbage up, you can read the way people post here and realize half of it was stolen from reporters in the first place.

Aside from that, I am really happy Choice didn't pull a julius jones and say he was going to get 1700 yards. I wanted to slap julius the moment he said that BS.

Disingenuous comments like this ruin the entire point that he is trying to make. I wish these bozos just stick to the facts without trying to be cute.

It only ruins the point if you get offended by the "cuteness" in the first place. Why this is a constant source of irritation I have no idea. Everyone should be used to it by now. You read it, you dismiss it as the fluff it is and move on.

People should already know that the majority of these writers are going to interject their opinions, nicknames and so on in their writing. Why it is that nearly every time there is one of these articles, there are several comments from upset posters who don't like it. They are not going to be fountains of unbiased information and there will undoubtedly be little comments here and there. I don't care what source you read. You should be able to know who is going to write what and when.

What I'd like to see from the three headed monster:
1. Choice leads in Carries and Rushing yards
2. Barber Leads in Touchdowns and 3rd and short first downs
3. Felix leads in total yards from scrimage and receiving yards...

Choice is going to be the backup "running back"

Felix is going to be a weapon from all over, but Choice is going to be the backup to Barber, as far as straight tailback is concerned.

I know its a good problem, but do we have enough balls to go around?

Witten, Barber, Roy, Felix, Bennett, Choice all should get plenty of opportunities

Ever since W it's been more increasingly acceptable and even encouraged to openly mock people who you disagree with. It's fine on real issues but as with everything else people overdo it to try to stand out. Look at me! I'm edgy and kewl!

I like Choice, but what exactly has everyone believing he should get more carries than Barber?

His late season heroics were nice, but were they spectacular enough that you would suddenly relegate him to primary status in terms of carries? I don't think so.

I agree with you here. It's great Choice showed something last year and now we know what we have, a good stable of RBs. I still think Barber should shoulder the load but not to the extend that it wears him down. The staff should have faith in Choice so that shouldn't be an issue now. Should be a good year if they can be used to the fullest extent.

I'd like to see Barber go back to the closer role... Even tho Jerry paid Barber to be the starter.. I see Choice as the better back.. Just one mans opinion..

Easy answer. Barber had a down year and Choice is the backup.

Choice is getting the love that Barber used to get when Julius was the starter or that Troy Hambirck got when Emmitt was in his last year.

Its human nature amongst fans.

That's not to say that Choice doesn't have some ability. He does. And maybe he will and should overtake Barber. But nevertheless, his backup status fuels the fire.

AS if everyone on this board does not interject an opinion, a favorite, or an ajenda in their comments about a particular player or subject;)........It's only human nature for 99.9% of the population....

I dont see how all 3 RBs can be kept involved in the playcalling barring injury. If Felix is used as he should be, the tandem of Barber/Felix at RB is more than enough.

If the coaches decide to lessen Barber's early game carries some - that's fine. But Felix is the guy we want touching the ball as much as possible. He's our explosive big play threat.

Nothing against Choice, who is a good young player himself, but trying to integrate a 3rd RB into the equation is just too much for Garrett to worry about, especially when you already have 2 good players ahead of him. I know what coaches are saying now about getting all 3 players involved, but it is June. Let's see what happens once the season starts.

I like Choice and I'm sure he'll get plenty of oppurtunities to make plays. I don't think it really matters what way they eventually decide to use the backs each week, I think they'll just find plenty of ways to get them all touches.
