DMN: BLOG: Terence Newman's status in question for season opener

:starspin If Newman doesn't start the opener that goes to show how much Dallas believes how favorable they are in this game compared to Cleveland. Newman was riding roller coasters for the first time just 2 days ago for cryin out loud. Give me a break with this bs, are we really this dominating? We haven't played a game and we could very possibly be having to score at least 28 points to win this game. Give the brown's some respect since that offense was top 5 last year and their defense is at least average with some earth shakers on the DL. Geeeez, Wade just has to be blowin smoke. If Gameday comes and Newman gets a rest you know the Boyz really are that dominant, that's all I can say. Newman hasn't blown a wheel and Pacman is not that good at this point. They really can't be downgrading Newman like this and Upgrading Pacman like this. It's all smoke and gamemanship. Heck if Pac is this good already, and T.O and Brandon marshall been feeding him Gerber during TC from what Ive seen and heard, just wow. I'm at this point speechless!

This better be a freaking ploy. I am SOOOOOOO sick of wondering about my secondary. Seriously. I am. I'd rather wonder about my running game or my pass rush or my WRs (that's pretty popular these days) or my special teams --- I am exhausted trying to piece together the secondary. I really am.

You mean the Cowboys bungled an injury prognosis and gave fans false assurances? Positively unprecedented.

wow, try saying that 3 times really fast.

Tnew is healthy!!!! wade mentioned bringing him in slow cause he hasnt played. You people obviosly dont listen to the actual PC.wow.

It sounds like Cleveland uses a lot of 2 TE sets with Winslow as the slot WR. If that is the case then Newman will play the slot and cover Winslow I would think in the nickel. Henry may be the better matchup but it would be an easier matchup for Newman on Winslow than on Edwards or Stallworth.

I don't know what side Edwards usually lines up on but I would think they would like to get Henry on Edwards with help over the top and let Pac play Stallworth. Henry on Stallworth is a bad matchup for the Cowboys for sure.

maybe TNew should just sit and wait for Philly.

Hes becoming one of the most fragile players ever to for the Cowboys.

The package they've taken Williams out of, and replaced with Henry is designed for offensive formations like this...is it not?

Wow.

Umm....missing 3 games in one's career doesn't usually make one 'fragile'....and it certainly doesn't make a player 'one of the most fragile' of his team.

Jebus.

hes always hurt.

I mean its great he played through injuries, but this is year what? with TNew playing with a season lingering injury.

With the injury lingering, the Cowboys limited Newman's participation in the last two practices.
“I don't think he's completely back yet,” Phillips said Thursday. “I'd say that's where we are. That's why we're being cautious. Let's see where we are (after practice) tomorrow.”

Phillips said he would seek input from Newman before making a decision.

“No matter what you say, it's how the player feels about it,” Phillips said. “The doctors can say the guy is all right and he says, ‘I don't feel good. I'm still messed up. I'm not 100 percent. I'm 83.5 percent,' or whatever it is. So it's how the player feels. Because I've had other situations where the doctor or athletic trainers says, ‘We don't know,' and the guy says, ‘I can go. I feel good.'”

Let Newoman sit.

Hey, if it fired up TGlenn, we can call TNew a girl too, maybe it will work.

I think it is, but I am not sure that package is designed to put the 5' 10"Pacman on the 6'3" Braylon Edwards though. I think they stick with their normal Nickel in this game, maybe letting Watkins replace Williams. A lot of this depends on what side Braylon lines up on which I don't know. If Braylon lines up on Newman's side I can see them sticking Henry on Winslow. If Braylon lines up on Henry's side I can't see them moving Henry to the slot to cover Winslow and leaving Pac on Edwards.

That just seems to be giving them a big advantage.

I just read this a little while ago and for some reason I just don't believe it. I just have a feeling that Newman will out there starting on Sunday.

then be prepared to be surprised, haha

IMO I think Tnew overtrains during the offseason....he then sets himself for injuries. I knew this groin injury would linger. If we have to go with Pacman....we need to play man to man. In fact....I'm not sure why we don't go man to man most of the time with this secondary....I hate zone!

yes. he is.

Mickey just said on Talkin' Cowboys that the players are saying that Newman did the same things yesterday that he did the day before. Sounds like he's fine. Mickey thinks that the coaches were just trying to pull one over the Browns.

Of course his status is up in the air, Why let the Browns know who is healthy, and who is not
