Terrell Owens' signing saves Cowboys

The Cowboys have opened up nearly $3 million in salary-cap room by signing Terrell Owens to a four-year deal worth $34 million.

Owens will receive a signing bonus of $12.9 million and a base salary of $830,000 ($100,000 is guaranteed). So let's prorate the $12.9 million over four years, which gives us $3.225 million. Add that to the proration left on his original three year deal ($1.666 million). Then add his $830,000 base salary and you come up with $5.721 million.

Owens was scheduled to count $8.666 million against the cap this year, so there's the savings of $2.945 million

How's this for karma? In between text messages and calls regarding the Owens' deal, I was about to sit down to dinner with my family at Corner Bakery in Highland Village. The order number received for our table was 81. I thought it was pretty weird. I went with the club panini, in case you were wondering.

Extra money for Taylor, Chad Johnson or maybe to resign Hamlin/Canty?

Anytime we free up money, you've got to wonder why.

Hamlin and Canty...come on down.
