The Cowboys' starting left guard is ...

Cory Procter.

At least that's what it looked like during the portion of practice the media is allowed to watch. Procter, who started two games at center when Andre Gurode was injured last season, worked at left guard with the first unit.

Pat McQuistan played most of the preseason finale at left guard, with Procter sliding over from center in the fourth quarter. It stands to reason that the coaches thought Procter performed better.

More on this after we get Wade Phillips' thoughts on the search for Kyle Kosier's replacement this afternoon.

Practice update

WR Isaiah Stanback has returned to practice from his shoulder injury. He is wearing a harness. LB Kevin Burnett is also back at practice and should play Sunday. He is coming off minor knee surgery.

Cory Procter is also working with the first team at left guard.

You guys should really have more confidence in our coaching staff. I'm sure HH knows what he's doing, he's one of, if not the best in the league. Proctor will be well prepared and ready to go...

Oh boy..

Shaun Rogers would win the strength matchup w/ Kosier too

I foresee alot of rollouts to the right for Tony, that's where he likes to roll out anyhow

I'm not surprised at all. McRed doesn't have a nasty enough bone in his body to be a an OL in this league and sure hell isn't going to even hold his ground against Shaun Rogers. Most of our back ups aren't good enough to hold up for a game and probably never will be able too. 3 yrs is more than enough time, ship him. One common thing I am finding in the OL we draft or even pick up off of waivers is that they do not have that nasty streak in them. We need to look for big bodies that have a nasty streak in them, like a Colomb o or Bigg. Just bad earth movers. McRed is a push over, Marten a push over, Free has some guts and I hear Holland has a nasty streak too. Proctor serviceable, Berger will never progress beyond what he is at right now. We need some guys with a chip on their shoulder, cause with out that, it doesn't matter how big and athletic they are, they becomepush over's to nasty DL like Shaun Rogers. Even Flo is a quiet guy off the field but on it he's a grinder. Heck practice with the broncos he's throwing hooks and ripping helmets. No one's gonna push his line around o his shift. McRed, pushover - - - just just ship him out.

Zoners, it was posted from news on dallas morning news blog, that Proctor practiced at LOG today. As we now know the NFL front office is closed today for labor day. Could it be that Pat McQuistan is involved in a trade say to Miami?

Since, McQuistan was one of Parcells pet projects and Sparano's too?

What do you think?

Yeah def...and I see a lot of tosses and stretch plays with Felix/Barber to tire out that defensive line with, particularly Shaun Rogers..

I said in a another thread (after putting on my tinfoil hat) that a possible reason we haven't yet signed Keith Davis might be that Jerry is trying to work a last minute trade of Ball or someone else for a low draft pick to make room for Davis instead of just outright cutting someone. Could be McQ, too.

It's a strectch, but possible.

I've posted this in some other threads, so I apologize for the over kill, but I have a strong opinion about this if it unfolds.

The weakest link on this team is the interior backups on the offensive line, imo. That is where Proctor, Berger, and Marten live. Marten is number 11 for sure, and Proctor has to be number 10 in the o-line pecking order. Furthermore, I think Marten and Proctor are the two weakest players on the team. Erik Walden (our 2007 6th round pick) is in K.C., because the two weakest players, imo, are still on our roster. IMO, these two players will never start in Dallas, and they have both shown nothing to stay on our roster. Marten looked horrible at tackle and just as bad at guard. Finding offensive linemen, corners, and wrs during this time of the year is difficult, and I'm glad they made the move for Holland.

However, I just don't understand releasing pass rushers (Walden) or quarterbacks (Matt Moore). Moore, with another preseason, could have been our young backup or number 3 guy. He would have played at Washington last year. Also, Dallas could have drafted a guy like Steve Johnson in the 6th round, WR out of Kentucky, who is currently on the Bills' roster. He could have made this roster, with all the injuries, for sure. It is a little frustrating, because the hand writing is on the wall for Marten, and Dallas should know that Proctor isn't good enough to be a backup in the NFL. At least, he should not hold a roster spot on a team like the Cowboys.

If we get a 7th for him that is fine by me. After all, that is all he cost us. Anything more than that is a bonus.

It's going to be trouble if he's the starter. We might as well roll out a red carpet and say heres a path to Tony Romo

Shaun Rogers will be unstoppable in the first quarter. He'll be pretty good in the 2nd quarter. By the 3rd quarter he'll start getting winded. By the 4th quarter he'll decide this is too hard and he'll just quit.

At least that's what he's done in every game I've ever watched him play. Even when he's not soft around the midsection, he's still soft in the head.

He's overreacting ALOT!!! HH is one of, if not, the best OL coach in the league. He will have him ready. Our coaching staff isn't stupid, they know what they're doing. OG is one of the easiest position to help out if need be. Proctor will be just fine....
