Don't listen to what the coaches say. Look at what they do. They moved Marten to guard after determining that he can't play tackle. Then, they moved him back to tackle when the LG spot opened up. Marten should be cut when Keith Davis resigns. With two WRs out, Ball and Oglesby can be the gunners. Plus, they are better players than Marten.
When they played McQuistan at LG against the Vikings, it was an audition for him to take the job. Berger was the second choice, and he played RG. How do I interpret this?
Proctor has won the chance by default. This says something about Berger, too, imo. If he can't beat out Proctor for playing time, he needs to go next year. Evidently, they are not confident in McQuistan to do the job. This was his opportunity to play for the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL. He probably will not get another chance to start on this team unless our RT goes down.
The coaches wanted to move McQuistan to guard when Phillips took over. What does that say about their opinion of McQuistan's ability to play tackle? Marten was drafted to replace him at RT. Then, the starting tackles were not ready to practice before the 2007 season, so they moved McQuistan back to tackle. Therefore, he doesn't get the opportunity to develop at guard after getting moved back to tackle.
Now, he plays most of camp and most of the preseason at RT, and Marten is moved inside, because he looks lost at RT. Now, you don't have McQuistan trained at guard when you could use him, and Holland isn't ready.
In my opinion, Marten's very pathetic play at RT caused McQuistan to be moved back outside. Wade can say that "he thinks McQuistan is a good prospect at tackle". However, during his first draft he or the organization tried to replace him with Marten and move him to guard.
The bottom line is this. This could have been avoided if Marten wasn't such a big bust. His poor play affected McQuistan's development at guard, the position the organization wanted to play him at.
