DMN Blog: Troy: One playoff win not enough

Come'on...

That's nonsense. The Cowboy's predictions were all over the map, from 7-9 to 13-3.

Some picked them to make the playoffs and some didn't.

But still, a one-playoff win season would be a slight disappointment given the talent level of this club.

I'm not going to put all my hopes & dreams on a SB victory. If that happened– terrific!

I'd be very pleased with this club even if it lost the conference championship. I could live through the winter with that.

But one playoff win would be a little empty in all honesty.

Troy is still upset his "boy" Aaron Rodgers lost.

Go cry somewhere else.

Aikman's not happy unless the now Cowboys are losing. It pains him to watch Romo win and destroy all his passing marks. The only thing Aikman can cling to right now is 3 rings.

If Romo gets a ring, look out. Aikman will be torqued to the max.

I don't have any idea on how you're stringing those thoughts together– they're beyond "left field".

Haha youare delusional when Aikman has defend Romo many times in the media from fans and other media pundits.

Please he said the truth and nothing else people always try to throw Aikman under the bus because they think he should be nothing but a Dallas mouth piece. Please that would turn in to Dallas version of Theisman.

You are right Kangaroo, Aikman tells the truth, good or bad. I've heard him praise Romo when he is playing good and point out Romo's deficiencies when he has played bad. Aikman does the same thing with players on other teams. My problem with Buck and Aikman is that they are boring.

Personally for me after comming this far after overcomming so many hardships and after hearing so much crap about what this team cant do im only gonna be satasfied if we get to the superbowl and win our team has the potential to acclomplish this so I dont want anything less

I don't see anything wrong with what he said. If they lose Sunday, I won't considered the season to be a very successful one but at the same time I won't consider it a complete failure either.

But then again i tend not to see most situations as an either/or scenario.

Completely agree with this post, I see nothing wrong with what he said.. some people just like to complain.

Seriously, who is going to be satisfied with what we did this season if we lose on Sunday? I sure as hell won't.

If we don't win the superbowl, I will be extremely disappointed and depressed about it. Not because I expected a superbowl victory to begin the year, but because my expectations have risen drastically since they started playing so much better late in the season. So I'll be bitterly disappointed that we didn't go all the way, but after a few weeks I'll recover and realize that the season was a success because we came so far, improved so much, and the future looks amazingly bright!:yourock:

We win this game, we'll roll the Saints or Cards.

The Cardinals can score points, the Saints defense is a fluke - we get the Birds in our house and we'll make up for last seasons OT loss when we lost Romo and McBriar.

While I don't know if we'll "roll" on the Saints or Cards, I am less concerned with them as I am with Minn.

Troy knows what he's talking about. This is the Dallas Cowboys... we win Super Bowls... that's what we do, that's what we need to start expecting.

Getting the playoff monkey off the back was huge, but now we need to move on and start setting "Dallas Cowboys-sized" goals for this Cowboys team.

And that means Super Bowl!

he doesn't come off as a very likable guy when he's not wearing a Cowboys uniform

Back in the early to mid 90's on the old AOL forums, we had a weekly chat arranged where Aikman would come in and spend an hour or so with us. Alot of the talk was football, but he talked about other stuff too.

He's a really cool guy.

We'd all love for him to be an extreme homer for the Cowboys, but I see nothing wrong with him taking his broadcasting job as serious as he took his job QB'ing our team.

31 teams have an unsuccessful season every year. Why would you even set a goal of going 9-7, or of just getting to the playoffs, or just winning a wild card game? Hell no! Your goal is to win the Super Bowl! Every year! If it's not, then why are you playing?!

Basically.....you have to win the SB...

everything else is a disappointment IMHO.

Beating the Eagles last week took the monkey of our backs....but that was all media driven. Palmer and the Bengals havent won squat either and we never hear about that.

Im happy for Wade and Romo and the team because its gives the media less to complain about but in the grand scheme of things............your goal is always to win the Championship and if we dont succeed this year......then its back to the drawing board again next year.

Win this week but lose in the Championship game, and I won't be happy but it would be a successful season. It would take me a few weeks to get over it, though, because this team has the talent to go all the way.

True, but we have all seen too much... What I mean this is the first time in a very long time that all three phases of the Cowboys have been playing at such a high level. With respect to the remaining teams in the playoffs, it should not be shocking to say Dallas could make it to the superbowl and even win it this year. Nice to think that this team should be contenders for years to come, BUT, after what they have showed the last 4 games, they really need to beat the Vikings! Lose this week or next, then it really is back to the drawing board!

So Troy Aikman if the Cowboys season ends on Sunday can it be considered a successful season?

"I can tell you there is an owner in Dallas who is not going to be thrilled," Fox's Troy Aikman told a network conferece call this morning.

"I don't know if winning a playoff game satisfies anybody," Aikman added later.

But there is one positive: "They won't be a team viewed as a complete failure," Aikman said. "If you asked anyone at the beginning of the year if they considered winning one playoff game enough, they'd say no."

No, crap, Troy.

Actually I really agree with him. I thought, prior to the season, that I'd be more than satisfied with 1 playoff win.

Now while I'll consider that a step in the right direction I'm now at the point, with the way this team is playing together, that 1 really just isn't enough. I want that Superbowl championship.

While I certainly want to win the Superbowl every year, it really seems crappy to only be happy with the season 5 times in 48 years.

I felt the same way at the start of the season. I hope this team can win 1 playoff game. I thought that would be positive development. But I guess that was me thinking that they would only be good enough to do just that. Not really good enough to compete against an elite team. Well, I don't think that anymore. This team is clearly good enough to take any team out from this point on. A loss this weekend or next weekend would be simply heart wrenching!
