The Cowboys clearly do not trust rookie Victor Butler in base defense situations yet, despite his two-sack effort vs. Carolina. Banta-Cain is experienced enough to make a switch from the Patriots' 3-4 to the Phillips' 3-4.

Why does Butler not getting much playing time have to mean that the Cowboys don't trust him in the base defense?

I think it just means that Dallas likes its starters and doesn't want to take them off the field much. Spencer is strong against the run, so Phillips isn't going to replace him with Butler in those situations, and Ware is too good to take off the field for more than a couple of plays.

If Banta-Cain were signed, then he'd just end up in the same situation as Butler here, at best.

Hmm should we sign a vet OLB that would be a great backup, or keep the guy who has a bad, nagging hamstring that probably will end up on IR? Tough decision man...

CZ fans- cant wait for Greg Ellis to be gone, despite the fact that he WAS/IS a very good pass rusher

CZ fans- then pray for a JAG like Banta Cain to be added

More irony

Always struck me as a guy who should have been a lot better than he actually is.

He's been in the league for seven years and was a 7th round pick

In case you haven't been paying attention to the NFL, that's a story of a guy who is a lot better than he was expected to be

Bottom of the roster guy vs. a constantly complaining guy who wants to start.

Ellis wouldn't be happy in the sort of role that TBC would fill here.

But hey, other than that, great analysis.

I think people wanting Ellis to go had more to do with his pissing and moaning and their desire to see Spencer.

Suggesting the team should bring a guy in as a role player isn't exactly a contradiction with the desire to see a malcontent leave.

The guy did nothing in frisco after he got paid in free agency. He's a nice role player, but he's nothing special.

Yes yes yesssssss.

I can't believe NE let him go.

He's looked good this year. He has nice speed comin off the edge. He'd be able to contribute in nickel packages IMMEDIATELY.

I have no doubts that he's better than Curtis Johnson at the very least.

This is a no-brainer.

A better question, and this isn't directed at this particular OP BTW, is why does every released player belong in Dallas?

If all you are talking about is Jerry's money, why not?
