I smell a rat...or at least a substance abuse suspension coming up, ala Quincy Carter.

He's been in the league for seven years and was a 7th round pick

In case you haven't been paying attention to the NFL, that's a story of a guy who is a lot better than he was expected to be
Like I said, I see him and see a guy who never reached his potential.

That's what that contract in SF was about. Potential.

For whatever reason, he never reached it.

There are such things as project players who disappoint. He's one of them.

Pass.

clearly we cant do without a so-so guy just cut by a team that really has a mediocre pass rush itself.

You mean as opposed to the talented depth we have at OLB? You're not tired of seeing Spencer and even Ware looking gassed in the 4th yet?

I know, I know. If he's so good, why'z he available?

Yes yes yesssssss.

I can't believe NE let him go.

He's looked good this year.
He has nice speed comin off the edge. He'd be able to contribute in nickel packages IMMEDIATELY.

.

You dont notice anything wrong with this?

Linebacker Tully Banta-Cain was cut by the Patriots on Monday, but the 29-year-old said he expects to rejoin the Patriots.

Banta-Cain appeared on a radio show and wasked asked if he was cut.

"Yeah, I don’t know," he said, according to the Boston Herald. "There’s some stuff going on in terms of the roster. I got to see what’s up with that situation."

Banta-Cain said that the move was made with the understanding that he'd be back, and he used the words "we" and "us" when discussing the Patriots.

The move came as a surprise to most people, considering Banta-Cain has played well and Adalius Thomas has not met expectations this season. In six games and two starts this season, Banta-Cain has made 13 tackles and a team-high three sacks.

Banta-Cain played four seasons in New England from 2003 to 2006 before joining the San Francisco 49ers for two years. He re-signed with New England this past offseason after being released by San Francisco.

Yeah, he's a real rotten apple alright. No way should we even consider bringing him onboard.

Eh...I'm honestly not high on Tully. I won't complain if they brought him in for depth but I'm not going to complain either if they just let the guy sit there and someone else get him.

Grading System
TULLY BANTA-CAIN
Position: DE
Class: Sr
School: California
Conference: Pac-10
Ht., Wt.: 6'2, 264
40 Time: 4.7
Grade: 3.78

Selected by New England Patriots
Round 7, pick 25 (239 overall)
BIO: Two-year starter who totaled 39 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, and 13 sacks, and named Pac Ten selection last year. Junior numbers were 33-17-8 after 35-13-5.5 the prior year. Recently ran a 4.62 forty weighing 262 pounds.

POSITIVES: Pass rushing specialist who could ultimately be moved to outside linebacker. Explodes off the step with a quick first step, plays with forward lean, leverage, and fast getting into the opponent’s backfield. Good athlete, quickly changes direction or alters his angle of attack and displays the ability to move laterally to the flanks, making plays against the ball carrier. Instinctive with a good head for the game and reads the action, quickly locating the play. Works his hands nicely and rarely is off his feet.

NEGATIVES: Not big or bulky, slow shedding blocks and easily moved from his angle of attack.

ANALYSIS: Best as a nickel pass rusher at first glance but could develop into a complete defensive end or outside linebacker in a three-four alignment. A 10acious athlete with the ability to make it at the next level.

PROJECTION: Early Third Round

For goodness sake, they just signed Junior freakin' Seau and they cut this guy and you guys can't wait to sign him.

That said, he wouldn't be a bad depth guy to bring in if we could afford the roster spot.

This thread reeks of Crow. Ellis is gone and you want to replace him. With lesser talent.

We lost a good athlete with talent and experience, in our division mind you, and now we cry wolf.

Yeah, let's bring in Bain.........................................

3 years 8.7 mill isn't exactly a HUGE contract by NFL standards.

Again, a 7th round pick who has managed to keep an NFL job for this long has far exceeded the potential that NFL scouts projected for the guy

Nobody has to worry themselves any longer.

For some unknown reasons, New England re-signed him.

Not like they know what they're doing...

speculation on several sites that they are cutting players to accelerate their cap hits. don't know how accurate that is or what impact it will have... but they seem to be up to something.
