Victory Monday

Wade Phillips decided to give the players today off from meetings, film watching and conditioning. His decision drew a loud cheer from the locker room after Sunday's 37-21 win at Atlanta.

Many teams have "Victory Mondays" as the season goes on. It's a reward for players' hard work. And a lot of players come into work anyway because they are creatures of habit. They'll watch the film on their own and work out.

But is the timing of this "Victory Monday," right? The Cowboys just had their bye. They had eight penalties against Atlanta. They made mistakes. I don't know that this is a huge deal, but I wonder if you guys think it's the right thing to do.

I'd feel better about this if it came a few weeks down the road after they have strung some wins together.

until lyou know the whole story, don't make these judgments--maybe they have already prepped for the next game and already planned for an off day

sometimes a day off is just what a team needs

I guarantee that the coaches aren't off

I understand why they did it, and why many teams do it, but I think they probably shouldn't have done it this week.

I don't have a problem with this. I watched a thing on Andy Reid once and he would gve the Eagles players off till wednsday or sometimes even Thursday off after a big win. This was back when they were really good. A performance like yesterday can and should be rewarded with a day off.

We will see but I think it is a good thing to occasionally reward guys. Wade worked the team though out the bye week and giving them off today I don't think is going to hurt them

So this is the new thing to gripe about by the media. It's apparently a general policy to do this when you win or play well.

While Dallas had too many penalties they did play good, and apparently beat a very good team.

They are 4-2 having lost to 2 good teams. I get frustrated with the dumb mistakes, but they made these with Parcells. I don't understand griping about Victory Monday.

With the way they handled the Bye week? I have no doubt at all that they know how to handle this team after a win. Guys are banged up. That was a tough win. They deserve the day off. You guys have no idea how much toll the game takes on your body. A day off can help.

You know what, its all cushy from our livingrooms, but these guys abused their bodies and they are sore and hurting. A day off after they win in spectacular fashion is well deserved. The defense really showed up and brought their A game and I am sure their bodies hurt.

Wrong message my butt, good one by Wade to say "see when you win, nice things happen"

on first and ten they were all saying the falcons not as good as everyone though, except skip. He gave the boys credit for the win, but the other 2 guys tried to play it as atlanta is just overated. Skip also added he thinks hands down dallas is the best team in the division. Hard to argue since everyone else is struggling right now

I don't understand the yearning for the hard-*** coach. Didn't we have that in the Parcells era and get pretty much the same results? It's really working out for Mangini, isn't it?

Imagine you've had a pretty breakthrough week at your job, and your boss decides that even though it's standard practice to give everybody the Friday off after Thanksgiving, you're going to have to drag your butt to work this year...to send you some kind of message, or make some kind of emasculating statement about how what you've accomplished wasn't good enough?

I realize these are supposed to be our superhuman tough guys, but I don't think the league works that way any more--and I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing. No reason we can't treat them like adults. They take risks with their bodies and livelihoods I can't even imagine, and somehow it's soft to give them a traditional day off after a big win? Pshaw.

Good...I hope Dallas continues to get dissed by the media. Hopefully this will keep the team focused to go out and prove they are the best every week on the field.

I do not want the team getting the big head after a good win and then getting lazy. We need to stay focused on the goal for the remainder of the season throughout December and into January.

I'm not sure how good the Falcons are myself. Good solid win regardless. I thought the Chiefs win was solid. But the Falcons? How good can you be when Turner is putting up 3 yards a carry? And Matt Ryan? He had only been sacked 2 times but hell he throws the ball out so fast there's no wonder he doesn't have more picks. 4 INTS in his last 2 games. Not shocking. And that secondary with Williams out? Terrible. I'm not sure why they got all that hype to begin with. They're inferior offensively to they were last season.

I agree they are not all world, but their only loss coming in was @new england. And they completely dismantled the 49ers, and they have been a pretty good to decent team this year.

It really is shocking when you look at the fact that after their first touchdown yesterday, we outscored them 37-7 until their td in garbage time!!!! That is amazing

What's wrong with rewarding your players with a day off after a good win? How could anyone have a problem with that?

I love the mediots!!!

They do keep me giggling at least.

One hand this was a must win, live or die, make or beak game... they win the game and now it's just "business as usual" no rewards???

WOW!

They get to skip film day... big whoop.

They aren't missing a single practice and most of the team will show up anyway for treatments. The dufus blog poster has already noted the player's parking lot was half full by 9 am.

the thing to consider is that if they just had a practice Monday, they would clear all those penalties right up. Because you know that during every play they're thinking back to Monday's practice!
