DMN: BLOG: Wade Phillips is really mad about mental mistakes!!!

If Wade Phillips starts trying to be a 'tough guy' coach he will lose this team real quick. These guys have bought into the good ole boy, laid back Wade Phillips and he can't go changing his approach after two preseason games where things didn't look so peachy.

I actually think Jerry is a little more P.O.'d than Wade is, but Wade is the guy talking at the presser.

Unless Wade starts swinging a bat and breaking things in the locker room this will just fall on deaf ears... or someone else will be fixing it. Houck??

I think too much get made of the laid back nice guy. Wade has been coaching most of his life. I have no doubt he will get his message across to the players and staff. Wade will treat you like a man but he expect guys to act like men.

He should have a giant cupcake made and put it in the locker room and call all the players in. Maybe when they see the symbolism of it, the players will cowboy up and start playing like the professionals they are being paid as.

I disagree. It actually means more from a coach who rarely goes down that track. Especially when the team knows its true.

Remi Ayodele will have half of that thing eaten before the entire team even gets into the locker room.

:laugh2:

You make a good point...but every now and then you need to get their attention.......Dooms you just have to shoot one..and the the others will fall in line.:)

Since Wade is perceived as laid back and easy going...a good temper tantrum occasionally should be very affective..

With kids and high schoolers maybe.

Not with grown men who have grown to love you as you are.

For that to work, he would actually have to be mad. It's easy to see when somebody is just posturing for the sake of posturing. And I don't think it's even possible for Wade to get mad at this players. That would be like Santa Claus getting mad at his elves for mistakenly putting a fifth wheel on a toy truck...just ain't gonna happen.

Thing is Wade is not going to do that in front of the press these types of things are dealt with behind meeting room doors and during the film session. Wade knows there is a problem and Wade along with his staff will address the players on this. I have no doubts about that.

All I am saying is that everyone has a "Mad Button" somewhere.....and it needs to be used occasionally.

Hell I'll send him an email telling him I went out w.his wife....:)

You don't have to get mad to correct a problem. Phillips is not happy with the mental mistakes so I guess you could say if he is not happy then he must be mad or upset with the fact the players are committing these mistakes. Personally I don't care how he gets through to the players I just want to see this mental mistakes reduced to a minimum.

I know that Dooms.....I'm trying get some dialog started here. I very seldom get mad myself....but when I do.

A teacher...coach.....boss...administrator must utilize the methods that work for him or her......you can't be what you are not...but they had better work.

True, players see through an act. Wade will get his point across and in the end that is what matters.

Parcells did stuff like that all the time and the team was still one of the most penalized teams in the league...and its carried over to Wade's regime.

I don't know how much more Wade can do to prevent these guys from doing knucklehead things. He stress the importance to his coaches nd then they'll filter that down to the players. Ultimately, the players just have to get it.

Yes, "almost mad" and "perturbed" fit his profile so well.

by heck, get really mad, Wade!

I agree but he also has to let them know they are accountable for mental mistakes.
