The theory going around is that Tony Romo has been coached so much about protecting the ball and make sound decisions that it is taking away from his natural playmaking abilities.

If I can steal a Jacques Taylor term for a moment, Wade Phillips believes that's poppycock.

"We're not trying to change him," Phillips said.

Is there a possibility Romo is being too careful?

Sure he could but I don't think he's doing that," Phillips said. "He's working through it and we're working through it. He's not playing terrible but we've got to get him playing on top and one of the top guys in the league which he is."

Phillips doesn't believe Romo will be affected by the swirl of activity regarding last week's fourth-down play at Denver and the video.

"Tony's fine," Phillips said. "He's going to do well because he works so hard at what he does. He's a talented guy that cares. I think he'll do better and better."

Another reminder as to why Wade has never made it to Year 4 at any of his head coaching gigs. Dallas will continue the streak.

I'm more worried that Tony will streak, cuz he sure seems like he's hot and cold way too much.

I think that Romo's problems are coming from his offseason goals to change his mechanics and instincts. After all he was told to protect the football more and during OTAs he said he worked on his footwork as well. I'm willing to go out on a limb and say that he is playing against his natural ability and he hasn't made the full adjustment yet, possibly never will it's hard to say. I think I would rather see old Romo and take the good with the bad.

Wade Phillips would say everything is fine if the damn stadium was on fire. He seems to ignore problems and hope they go away instead of addressing them.

Reaaallly!?

Agreed. Big Bill would have come back with something like: the player has zero TD's in the last 2 games, he's constantly giving the other team the ball, you people are chattering about him not knowing how many downs we get ... and you want to know if he's alright? Well, there's 2 sides to that pancake. Man I miss big Bill. He probably still wouldn't be speaking to Tony since the NY game.

If I were ROMO I would be asking for a trade right now....the coaches and franchise are pushing the responsibilty for the Franchises' square on his shoulders.....He could play for 28 other teams and succeed...without taking this much crap from the media and fans.....Once the Franchise pulls its head out of its three points of contact....the team will succeed....

ROMO is ROMO.....How soon we forget Drew Bledsoe, Ryan Leaf, Clint Storener, the GM's hand pick successor Quincy Carter....etc...

The Cowboys need Romo more than Romo needs the Cowboys...

I don't think people know how hard it is to get a quality qb in this league, if Romo is driven out it will set this franchise back a good 3-5 yrs.

If Wade were actually coaching Romo that way I would feel better.

Parcells was the best at not letting his teams get too high or too low. This team is more bi-polar, with the most extreme swings.

I think Romo needs a little protecting right now. I think he needs a coach to take him aside and tell him that this team is nothing without him. The coach just needs to make him believe it. Right now, I don't think that is happening.
