DeMarcus Ware delicately responds to Greg Ellis' claim

DeMarcus Ware appeared on 1310 The Ticket with Norm Hitzges this morning to promote the NFL's Beat the Heat campaign, which focuses on hydration for high school and youth football players.

But Hitzges had to ask Ware about Greg Ellis' bizarre claim that Ware would take himself out of games and hide from the coaches to force them to put Ellis on the field last season.

Ware didn't flat-out deny Ellis' story, but he certainly didn't confirm it.

"You know, I just think that everybody got an ample amount of playing time, for what it was worth," Ware said diplomatically, acknowledging that he was uncomfortable discussing the subject. "At the end of the day, if I was off the field, there was a reason why I was off the field. Maybe Greg rushed the passer better against a certain guy. But I think at the end of the day, the time that guys got is how it is."

When asked how many plays he missed, Ware estimated that he was on the field for 95 percent of the defensive snaps. I believe it was actually a bit higher.

Hitzges mentioned that he didn't recall seeing Ware watching the defense from the sideline too often.

"Hey, tell me about it," Ware said.

Uh oh does not like Ware has the same recollection of the events. And he was there. But awfully classy of him not to just throw Ellis under too bad a lighting.

Stuff like this makes you love Ware even more. Completely avoids the story, or lack-thereof, and continues on. His number one concern is getting to the quarterback, not giving the talking heads something to talk about in July.

Ware is awesome :p

I'll tell you some of the guys I like on this team due to their attitude and the spark they provide in the work ethic and the way they carry themselves on the field.

Ware
Ratliff
Witten
Barber
Colombo

All of those guys have attitude. Some in the way they play, others in the sparks they provide.

Yep, Ware takes the high road as we all expected while Ellis continues to be a wingnut.

I don't believe Ellis was taking a jab a Ware. After reading the quotes it sounds more as if Ellis was praising Ware for looking out for him and seeing he got play time.

Ware, who was fighting to make NFL history with the sack record at stake, felt more compelled to put his mentor in front of his own accolades. Wow, what great character and a teammate.

Typical media BS in bold above. He's NOT UNCOMFORTABLE, HE'S RESPONDING CORRECTLY WITHOUT BEING POLARIZING.

But you've gotta throw a spin on it! Get those readers!

Hey guys either of you checking out training camp or a preseason game this year?
Thinking about it.. Not sure yet. If I weren't traveling in the other direction the kickoff weekend, I might have gone then.

I'm not making that drive to San Antonio, but I might shoot for the Tennessee preseason game. If not then, I will be in New Orleans for the December game for certain.

Ware handled this exactly as you'd expect him to and the exact way you'd want all your football players, and leaders, to handle things like this.

very nicely done.
