Stuff like this makes you love Ware even more. Completely avoids the story, or lack-thereof, and continues on. His number one concern is getting to the quarterback, not giving the talking heads something to talk about in July.

Ware and Witten should teach a class on how to play, act and talk like a pro.

It would be pretty amazing if the league could get the vast majority of the league, at least, to carry themselves the way these two do.

I don't believe Ellis was taking a jab a Ware. After reading the quotes it sounds more as if Ellis was praising Ware for looking out for him and seeing he got play time.

Ware, who was fighting to make NFL history with the sack record at stake, felt more compelled to put his mentor in front of his own accolades. Wow, what great character and a teammate.

You might in part be right. The way Ellis used the word "disgrace" in the quote could make it seem like he's saying it's a disgrace Ware would hide to get him in the game, but I think his angle is more that it's a disgrace the coaches wouldn't play him more and it took the NFL's sack leader taking himself out of a game to get Ellis in more.

Either way, Ellis' rant is largely nonsensical, idiotic, etc., but yeah, I'm still not entirely sure who exactly he was trying to throw under the bus.

Typical media BS in bold above. He's NOT UNCOMFORTABLE, HE'S RESPONDING CORRECTLY WITHOUT BEING POLARIZING.

But you've gotta throw a spin on it! Get those readers!

I'm not sure I get what you're saying. McMahon writes Ware *said* he was uncomfortable talking about the subject. McMahon didn't write Ware *sounded* uncomfortable. So either the writer was correct and Ware made that comment, or McMahon lied, which I doubt.

Plus, I don't think there's anything negative to be taken away from the idea Ware was uncomfortable talking about this. By all accounts he's never been a guy who likes to be in the middle of a firestorm, so it'd be no surprise if he was uncomfortable addressing a former teammate's perceived slight.

Uh oh does not like Ware has the same recollection of the events. And he was there. But awfully classy of him not to just throw Ellis under too bad a lighting.

Agreed ,He's a cool cat

I, for one, would be shocked if Ware didn't get a new contract done before the start of the season. He wants to stay in Dallas, he's a class guy and the organization wants to keep him.

That's exactly what it was. He was definitely throwing the coaches under the bus.

Or, considering he said something about the coaches "or the powers that be" making the decision, maybe he thinks Jerry was behind it. As if Jerry sent word to Wade to hold out Greg. Never mind that When Wade has praised Spencer in public many times now.

Right.. and then statistics would show you that Ellis is totally full of crap and this kind of thing only happened in his own imagination.

I am guessing Ware had at least a couple interviews today? ESPN seems statements from a Sirius interview:

Updated: July 9, 2009, 2:11 PM ET
Ellis: Ware helped me out

Ellis, who was vocal about his displeasure with his diminished role with the Cowboys last season, said on ESPN 103.3's "Michael Irvin Show" Wednesday that former teammate Ware shared his frustration to the point that Ware would hide from coaches during games so Ellis could play.

"It's a disgrace when DeMarcus Ware comes off the field just so I can get in the game and when the coaches tell him to come on the field, he tries to hide so I can play," Ellis said on Irvin's show. "And you're telling me we're trying to win the Super Bowl?"

Ellis, who had played all of his 11 NFL seasons in Dallas, was released this offseason and subsequently signed with the Oakland Raiders.

Ware, who has one season remaining on his rookie contract, earned his third straight Pro Bowl nod in 2008 thanks to a 20-sack season.

During the interview Wednesday, Irvin asked Ellis to clarify his statement that Ware would take himself out of games.

"On his own. He would say, 'G, come on.' And I would tell him, 'No, DeMarcus, go ahead, man. You're coming up on your contract year. Don't mess that stuff up. Go ahead and do you, and we're just going to do what the coaches, or whoever the powers that be, what they want to do.' "

Ware was asked to react to Ellis' comments on Sirius Radio's "Opening Drive" show Thursday. He didn't dispute Ellis' claims but defended his effort for the Cowboys last season.

"You know, on the concept of hydration, I think I was probably going off the field maybe to get hydrated," he said -- and then laughed. "But I think that everybody at the end of the day got ample amount of time and I went back and looked at a lot of the things, and I, what, played in like 95 percent of the plays? And, you know, maybe sometimes guys rush better against certain guys, so I don't know. I don't know what the deal is, but at the end of the day, I did what I can do to help the team out last year."

--------

This quote, especially the last line, sounds more like Ware was defending himself. I think there is truth to what Ellis said, although he probably did some exaggerating, as people often do when they are complaining.

Ellis sounds like he's still in the twilight zone.

The longer Ellis is away from this organization the better. My opinion of him has taken a complete 360. He talks about winning a Super Bowl and yet he takes the most money he can from one of the most inept teams ( Raiders ) in the NFL with absolutely no chance of even making the playoffs.

What a moron!!!! Good Riddance!!!

FYI, if your opinion takes a 360 it's right back to where it was initially. Perhaps you meant 180?

DeMarcus Ware was more concerned with hydration than Greg Ellis' playing time

DeMarcus Ware continued his radio tour to promote the NFL's Beat the Heat campaign by appearing on SIRIUS NFL Radio's "The Opening Drive" with Bob Papa and Randy Cross.

Of course, Greg Ellis' comments from yesterday were brought up, and Ware came up with a clever response.

"You know, on the concept of hydration, I think I was probably going off the field maybe to get hydrated," he said with a laugh, according to the transcript posted on ESPN.com's NFL East blog.

Ware obviously doesn't want to say anything to make Ellis look bad, but he certainly isn't fessing up to hiding from the coaches so they'd have to get Ellis on the field.

"I mean, so if you think about, if you're out there playing what, nine or 10 plays, you're going full speed, you're giving it your all, and all of a sudden your body gets fatigued and you really can't go anymore, but you have this next guy that's maybe the second-string guy or whatever that comes in that's going to do better than you can do in three plays," said Ware, who rarely misses as many as three defensive snaps in a game. "So would you rather have a player that's out there just trying to give it his all and he's not doing anything, you get a touchdown scored on you because the guy's tired, or would you rather want to give that guy two or three plays off and so when he comes back in there, he's getting sacks, he's making those big plays to get the offense back the ball?"

No offense to Ellis, who is still a productive pass rusher, but I'd rather have a tired Ware on the field.
