Patrick Watkins will start at strong safety now that Gerald Sensabaugh is sidelined with a broken thumb. Watkins played the majority of Sunday's loss after Sensabaugh was injured and finished with six tackles.

"I felt pretty good,'' Watkins said. "I tried to be on top of everything. For the most part, I think I did OK and I look to improve even more this week knowing I'm going to start.''

Watkins is in his fourth season with the Cowboys. He started nine games his rookie season and has come off the bench since.

"It's all a growing process,'' Watkins said. "I know more than I did as a rookie. I know more than I did last year. I've prepared better and studied better.''

Sensabaugh could be out for up to four weeks with the injury but hopes to return sooner.

I wish this guy could turn into the rangy safety that I heard he was supposed to be when we got him. If he could make some impact with some INT's that would be huge for this defense.

Sadly he'll probably be a JAG back there.

Hopefully Watkins can show some of what he was doing in the pre-season. He had a good camp and finished strong in pre-season and now will get the opportunity. Don't screw it up Pat.

I didn't get to see most of the last game, but I will say this. From what I've seen, he definitely looks better than he did.

Some people thought the light may have come on for Carpenter this preseason. Apparently not. But Watkins really looked better this preseason and maybe, just maybe he will be the guy whos lightbulb came on this year. Strong Safety may be his fit.

So Proctor and Watkins may be starting against KC?

I really hope KC is as bad as everyone says they are...

If he does, we'll be just fine.

He does sound like he's ready. But as we know, this team is very very good at saying the right things.

How long to Mike Hamlin is healthy?

I'd rather have a 5th rounder we don't know if can play out there then 1 we know can't

That'd make him a probowler if he could play like that all season.

oh yeah, he was awesome that last pre-season game....if only he can bring it this Sunday we can finally stop looking for that elusive Safety we can rely on every week..

So Pat, does that mean that, up until now, when you knew that you were not going to start, you did not look to improve?

Sometimes when players do not police what they say, they say the worng thing, like the truth in this case. This explains why we are so compromised at Safety and that there is no accountability on the team. Players have become accustomed to wanting starting positions without thinking they need to earn them first.

Nice to know Pat Watkins is going to try and improve for the first time in his career, now that he's being handed the starting job by default.

Kind of taking the statement a bit out of context. You seem to add alot of your ideals to a simple statement being made.
