Holland ready: The Cowboys traded with Denver on Aug. 28 to get guard Montrae Holland and bolster their offensive line depth. However, Holland was inactive the first two games.

Holland was active against Green Bay because Phillips said he wanted eight offensive linemen. This week, backup Cory Procter will start in place of the injured Kyle Kosier (foot).
"We thought Montrae was ready to play if we needed him," Phillips said.

Glad to hear that Holland is ready. Hope we don't need him and that Proctor takes care of business until Kosier's return but you never know so Holland is great insurance. Next year he could be challenging Kosier.

ehh, don't know how to take this.

Happy that Proctor is apparently good enough to hold him off, but kinda annoyed we gave up a quality pick for a backup to the backup....

Have to admit, I'm a little surprised Holland isn't getting the call.

We gave up the equivalent of a seventh-round pick in this year's draft.

This has probably more to do with the playbook still and not talent

He maybe able to play in a pinch but his overall comfort level is not nea what it needs to be I bet

there would be a diff. between "ready" and being ready to be co-hesive inside the workings of a OLine unit

give it little more time.....

Holland doesn't have to start to be worth that draft pick...he's insurance. Kozier could be out a while...suppose Proctor or Bigg get dinged in the first half of a game, do we want to risk losing a game because we don't have a decent backup guard? Suppose Proctor went down big time, what would happen to our season?

Depth is critical.

HECK, he should be ready......

I think that some of you may not truly understand how big the playbook is for an NFL team. Not only does Holland need to get through the playbook but he needs to memorize it. He needs to learn not only the system but the terminology. It is kind of like someone reading the Bible in Hebrew and needing to memorize it in a couple of weeks..... a little bit bigger task than one may think.

How does a 5th round pick in two years equal a 7th round pick this year?

Does a 1st rounder in two years equal a 3rd rounder this year?

Yes. That's why teams give up a future #1 along with a 2nd round pick to move up into late 1st round. Because teams value a future #1 the same as a 2nd round pick.

I think that has more to do with teams wanting immediate compensation, cause when two years comes and you don't have a 1st rounder you don't think, well it's only worth a 3rd rounder, no problem.

if holland can play...this will alleviate us having to use a 1st day pick on an interior OL next year....I say we use a 4th round pick and develop him. We are going to HAVE to use a 1st day pick on an OT next year. We are going to HAVE to use a 1st day pick on an ILB. We are going to have to use a 1st day pick on a WR. And we are going to have to use a 1st day pick on a DL. Which is good...because we have 4 first day picks next year. Actually my bad, the 1st day is only rounds 1 and 2. But we do have 2 3rd round picks next year.

I agree and most of the time when a team gives up a 1st rounder they get a 1st rounder back in return. It's not like they are saying *meh* take this first round pick and i'll give you a 3rd two years down the line.

he's ready to play yet he still can't beat out Proctor......

I don't think "ready to play if needed" is the same as "ready to play". Proctor has not played that poorly when he has been in there. At least not poorly enough to hamper the offense.

It takes time to adjust to being with a new team. Proctor has been with the team for a while now. He has gone through the mini-camps and all of training camp and the pre-season games. Holland has not. Patience is needed. It is not confusing to me. I was not expecting this guy to be ready until midway through the season.

I think it has more to do with they have more trust in Proctor and they know he is going to do the right thing everytime.

Also Proctor has had a screw up here and there but its not nearly as devastating as you guys make it out to be. Hes been solid for us.

Holland is a beast and when he is ready he'll play.

Cowboys got Cleveland’s 2nd round pick (36 overall) AND 2008 1st rounder in exchange for the 22nd pick. Because a future 1st round pick is viewed as a 2nd round pick in current value.

If you've ever taken Finance 101 in college, it's basically the same concept as The Time Concept of Money. A dollar in my hand today is worth more than a promised dollar tommorrow.
