I always thought a hold was a hold, that it just, you know...simple. But Parcells has gone through 4-5 holders since he's been here. I even remember that he prefers his QB to hold it over the punter, but why I have no idea.

Is there anything in football that ISN'T a science?
Parcells has no idea either...it's just a thing with him.

And Kicking has been a science for many years. Landry used to apply golfing principles to his kickers swings to help them improve (BTW Landry was said to have been a pretty decent golfer). So it is no surprise that holding has become a science as well. Of course had Parcells not fired Hoffman he would have figured out and corrected the problem last year...but that's water under the bridge.

You? Help out a kicker? It would never happen.:laugh2:
You got that right. I'd hold it heavy on purpose so the coach wanted to strangle him.

i'm also starting to root for Colombu to win the RT position. Not only was he a former first round pick but reading about him chasing Henry for 40 yards on the interception shows that he will do everything he can when on the football field.

The 2 best holders I've ever seen were Jay Novacek and Joe Theisman. Yeah no joke, Joey T. who was probably the best I ever saw. I've always thought you needed great hands and a feel for the ball. A QB normally has the feel, but does he have the hands? I really don't know the answer to that because I have never held a ball for a PAT or FG.

I know the kickers want the laces out so you spin them away. This is why I say those 2 guys were the best I've seen. No bobbled snaps and laces out every time.

I'm wondering if Romo is not smooth on getting the ball down and thus they call it heavy? Again, I really don't know so it's just speculation. I do find it odd that Cundiff pointed a finger at him now this. I completely ignored Cundiff as sour grapes. Maybe it wasn't I truly don't know.

I've wanted Crayton or Witten to hold. Again, hands are so important in a hold. Parcells likes for a QB to hold. I want the best hands guy to do it. If that's a QB fine. If that's the Punter, fine. But if Romo's a liability take that away from him and let him focus on being the best QB he can be.

I agree when Cundiff mentioned it I brushed it off

When Cortez mentione it I laughed at the loser

But Vandy is the all time leading FG in the NFl if he says something is wrong I tend to believe that

Cortez mentioned it too?

Don't get me wrong I still blame the lace panties kickers for not being able to kick a "heavy ball."

I believe he said something in the paper once, but I know he said something to Romo on the field after a missed kick

Yeah and then Larry Allen became one of my favorite players ever as he proceeded to threaten that sawed off midget's life.

...DeMarcus Ware politely answered questions about why he isn't meaner this afternoon after Mike Zimmer had mentioned this morning that Ware has no mean streak. Would have been nice to see Ware screaming at the media that he does, in fact, have one. But that would have been out of character. Doesn't mean he can't play, though.
That's one reason why I really, really wanted Merriman.

I like characters with mean streaks.. especially at LB.

Man, I never thought of it, but I gotta find your posts when that happened.

Did you even really get into the game before that happened? That has to be in your top 10 moments in Boys history.

I wanted my wife to get pregnant with a boy that we could name Larry Allen.

I wish they hadn't stopped him. I've always wanted to see a human being defy gravity.

Okay, what exactly does this mean? This is the 2nd time I've seen a complaint about Romo holding the ball. The first was on Cundiff's website last year when he complained. The thing is I don't see anything that suggests Romo's doing anything at all wrong. What can a holder do that makes it a "heavy hold?" Does he push the ball into the turf or something?

JimZ31, if you read this would you ask Dylan to describe this?

I just e-mailed him.

The Late Night Cowboys Report...

The afternoon practice had its share of life-defining moments, including more shoddy play from the offense.

Either Bill Parcells has turned this defensive unit into the 1985 Giants or the offense has yet to hit its stride.

At one point, Parcells made the second-team offense run the same protection four consecutive times in rapid-fire succession. Guard Stephen Peterman pulled up lame after the third play and limped off the field. Parcells gave him a look of disgust as Peterman passed by.

Here's a quick summary of what took place in the afternoon session:

• Offensive tackle Rob Petitti worked with the third team. I don't think it means anything at this point, but it's not a great sign for him. The good news is that Marc Colombo continues to do a pretty nice job. Parcells praised him when he attempted to chase down Anthony Henry after an interception. Quarterback Drew Bledsoe threw a pass of his back foot and Henry had an easy pick.

• Defensive tackle Thomas "Pepper" Johnson sacked Bledsoe during team drills.

• Defensive end Greg Ellis had to cover wide receiver Patrick Crayton in the slot on one play.

• Rookie Skyler Green has switched from No. 6 to No. 10 now that Ahmad Merritt is not longer with us (in this camp).

• Cornerback Lenny Williams had a strong afternoon practice. He said he's still trying to get his legs back after playing in NFL Europe. Williams has always been right on the cusp of being able to make the team.

He has really good instincts, but I've heard coaches say that he doesn't quite have the speed you need at corner. He broke on the ball well today and knocked down a couple of passes.

• Parcells stayed on wide receiver J.R. Tolver all day.

"Snap out of it, J.R.!" he said after Tolver quit on a pass from Tony Romo.

• Thursday's schedule: We'll have Bill Parcells at 1:30 p.m. Dallas time and then practice will begin at 4 p.m. We'll have news and notes throughout the afternoon.

You guys are the greatest. Good night from Oxnard.

Bob Lilly didn't have a mean streak either. If he had, some people would probably still not have recovered.

Some guys can play with the so called mean streak on the field and act civilized off the field. You look at guys like Bruce Smith and Reggie White both men were gentlemen off the field on the field I would say they played with a mean streak. I think the same could be said for Lilly as well.

When wide receiver Patrick Crayton (right) asked passing game coordinator Todd Haley something before a play, Parcells shouted, "Can you do anything without asking Haley? You can't [use the men's room] without asking Haley."

Bill Parcells barked: "Come on defense, you think we're playing solitare?"
Now for the action:

I have been soemwhat slow to jump on the Marc Columbo bandwagon as a precaution to my own physche but the former 1st rounde ris really looking like he has some desire to go with at least some of that former athleticism. Looks like an opening day starter to me.

I don't know about starting- Petitti is going to be hard to move out of there.
But it certainly looks a lot more possible now then it did a few weeks ago.
