Tony Romo could be a Bronco or a Texan or a Cowboy next year.
But his wife Candice Romo thinks Romo's future possibilities go beyond which team Romo plays for - or even if he'll join a studio upon retirement.
"I joked that he could be an amazing DJ," Candice Romo said in an interview with KCTK 96.7 FM/1310 AM The Ticket on Monday. "He loves music.
She continued: "You know what I think he'd be really good at? An actor. This is really crazy, but I think he'd be such a good actor. He's really more of a creative I think. He has a good balance of that type-A and creative. His timing is impressive, and I - we're kind of movie connoisseurs and we love television - we watch a lot of movies and things, and we just kind of watch the craft. I personally think he'd be a really good actor."
Romo certainly has a knack for performance, from fourth-quarter comebacks through his decade as Cowboys quarterback to his emotional concession speech to Dak Prescott in November.
That time, though, he certainly wasn't acting. The longtime starter said it pained him to lose the chance to compete with his team. Candice Romo said the injury took a toll on her a swell.
"Watching your husband get hurt is the hard part," she said. And then to recover from an injury and the pain of that, watching any loved one is difficult."
Through it all, the Romos dealt with their fair share of criticism and attention. Candice didn't like it, but she said Tony never loses hope.
"I always call him Pollyanna," she said. "He's kind weirdly an optimist, which is why I think he's really succeeded in the NFL. Because you kind of have to be. I think if I had been in his position for all these years, I would have just crumbled under my own demise [but he] genuinely finds the good in these situations. He always goes to the other side where he creates this movie fantasy that it's going to have this epic ending. It's kind of uplifting to everyone around him."
There comes that actor tendency in Tony again. But Candice prefers to remove herself from the conversations and "kind of put my head under a rock" to focus on the present.
"He always jokes, 'Where's that girl that used to be a sports reporter that used to watch ESPN and stuff?' [but] it just gets to be too much."
Signing with another team won't be easy, Candice said. But that move wouldn't have been softened by Tony regaining the starting position from Dak.
"I think, honestly, Tony's been a part of the Cowboys for 14 years," she said. "We enjoyed this winning season as much as any. We were still a part of the team and really enjoyed. It was just as sad at the end as if he was throwing the ball."
