IRVING — Dallas Cowboys defensive end Anthony Spencer was participating in practice Saturday at Valley Ranch. He had been taking Fridays off as he continues his comeback from microfracture surgery on his left knee.

And, today is a Friday in the Cowboys world because they’re playing on Monday Night Football this week against Washington.

Starting right tackle Doug Free (fractured right foot) and reserve defensive end Jack Crawford weren’t practicing Saturday. They haven’t practiced all week and won’t play Monday against Washington.

Rolando McClain and Justin Durant were working in practice as the Cowboys nickel linebackers, with Bruce Carter in with those two in base defense.

I suspect that he will start making a big contribution in a few weeks. It will take him a bit to get back in the swing of thing but by the end of the season he will be getting to the QB.

I'm glad Spencer is getting to play and esp happy he's got some cartilage to walk around on.

If it has in fact healed well, would that knee still be considered degenerative? Like, is it a good chance that in 10 years it will have strong arthritis and need to be replaced in 20-30?

Interesting that Spencer playing and contributing has not gotten much press around here.

He can actually be a legitimate pass rusher. He played great vs. the Seahawks, and gave Wilson fits.

Didn't the Giants start gameplanning for him? I'm sure some of that was due to Pugh getting lit up the previous game, but I thought I read that they started chipping/helping against Spencer in that game because of his results against Seattle.

If he can continue to improve, and Lawrence proves to be an upgrade at WDE over Mincy, at least as far as pass rushing, we actually might be able to generate a pass rush right in time for the playoffs.

I was being careful not to be too contentious. I have been a Spencer fan for quite awhile. I noticed him creating problems the last two games. I expect him to get better and the more support he has around him the better he will look.

I noticed that too. Just kinda came and went like it was nothing. I actually completely forgot which game he first played.... Saints was it?

I still think Spencer is having issues with knee. He was completely over-matched in Giants game but was effective in Seattle game. Might be situation where he will be wildly inconsistent depending on how his knee feels.
