When Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made the decision to induct Darren Woodson into the Ring of Honor, there were two reasons that halftime of Sunday's Seattle game made perfect sense.

The lesser one would be that Woodson broke Lee Roy Jordan's all-time Cowboys record for tackles against the Seahawks in 2002. More importantly, the early November date would be a fitting big game between the defending NFC champions and the team that not only beat them in Seattle last season but nearlyreturned there for an NFC championship rematch in January.

What do we have instead?

Something that feels more like an elimination game than a matchup of the conference's best. Both teams sport losing records -- for very different reasons -- and are hoping to find their way back toward relevance with a win at AT&T Stadium Sunday.

I'm not sure if the Boys can turn this ship around but I'm not going to give up on the season. As long as they are mathematically in it, I'm pulling for them.

And that's exactly how I think. I don't assume anything and the realistic side of me knows the odds are against us, but until the Cowboys are eliminated, I will remain hopeful and optimistic, or a least attempt to do so. As I have said before, if we find a way to get into the playoffs and we have Romo and Bryant back and at 2014 levels along with no other major injuries, I like our chances. That said, we have to hope no one takes control of the division over the next few games. We need the other NFC East teams to lose as much as possible and for the lower ranked team in the standings to beat the higher ranked team when they play each other.

I thought this was a silly article. With the average career in the nfl being 5 years, of course individuals will have short windows. Usually people mean the team as a whole when talking about windows to be successful.

Is it me or did the article not really have much to do with the headline? I will admit I just skimmed it, but it seemed to be mostly about how Seattle has fallen off from last year. And how the window of opportunity for every team is short.

The entire thing struck me as nothing but filler, he needed to write an article and had nothing. As a result, we got a few hundred words of nothing.

I agree with you here.

But in reality, 5 straight losses and we haven't won a game since September 20th. We're going to have to run the table the rest of the season and hope the Giants stink it up.

They play the saints and bucs and very well could be sitting at 6-3 with us sitting up 2-6.

That average career number is nonsense. Core contributors almost always have substantially longer careers. Is our window closing because James Hanna or JJ Wilcox might be out of the league before playing 5 years? Or is this about Romo and Witten nearing the end of their runs and looming FA for some really good OL?

Exactly. They've lost 4 straight without their 2 best players and are ONE game back in the loss column (which is all that matters) and should be full strength after 3 more games and they might win 2 of these games. It would be ridiculous to give up now. If they were in almost every other division they'd be screwed but they're not.

Tim Cowlishaw said:
I would caution that after six games, Randle has 315 rushing yards, a 4.1 average and four touchdowns. McFadden has 281 yards, a 4.3 average and two touchdowns. The most recent sighting in New York raises hopes for the oft-injured ex-Raider, but their body of work through six games suggests there is no real difference.
Wow. That's really profound writing right there. The insightful conclusion would surprise anyone who has watched Randle and McFadden split carries in practically every game thus far.

I was not commenting on the article. I was commenting on the quote in my post.

Honestly, if I needed the Cowboys to win the superbowl to make me happy, I'd be a very depressed individual. It's all entertainment. It's more entertaining when the team does well, but I had no expectations coming in.

one thing about being a fan of this team is..

You can count on it to be inconsistent.

For whatever reason..

We haven't been able to show consistent improvement from any season to the next for 20+ years.

In fact..since the era of FA..

We've never climbed higher than winning a division title and usually lost the first playoff game.

And that only 3 times.

We never have mastered how to equal the better teams and it's now becoming our legacy.

What a tough thing for us as fans who each season over-estimate who we are and what is going to happen.

But I wouldn't change teams for anything.

I saw Jay Glazer on Colin Cowherd and Colin asked him about the Cowboys and Glazer said after covering the league as long as he has, his favorite player is Troy Aikman. Colin asked why and he said to do what Troy did in Dallas is so remarkable because everything is times 20. The microscope is unimaginable compared to very other team and that includes the Patriots. He said Keith Brookings said the same thing. He was simply not prepared mentally when he first got to Dallas to be scrutinized by the media, fans and even other players in the NFL because of all the teams, other players see the Cowboys the most because of their television schedule.

He said Dallas will wear you out if you're not a great player or emotionally really strong.

I thought that was very interesting.

Thats it ! lol most of these articles are nothing, just some rambling opinions.
I read the one on hardy., and who cares what joe thiesman thinks??

The thing no one mentions is ST coach shoved hardy very hard first, then hardy hit his clipboard.
To me Rich lost it first when he shoved hardy.
I also cant blame any player for being mad after that kick return.

I am glad someone got on to rich about the ST play, maybe he will go elsewhere, or at least do better job.
I didnt think hardys comments were bad either, no one knows what he meant, they fill in the blanks with their own minds.

I will add to the OT , Dallas is in it till they are eliminated, you never know how things will go, with this team or other teams.
The giants could win out and go to SB again, or they might not win another game, who knows?
Dallas does need to win 2 of the next 3 to have a realistic chance, otherwise Romo will have to win 7 in a row.
