So what specifically are you seeing he is doing wrong throwing on the run?

Hard to tell from the precise moment this photo is taken, but I would guess that he is not squaring his shoulders and appears to be about to throw it across his body.

His elbow is too low. Even though he is throwing on the run his legs are a little to far apart which can lead to some inaccuracy. It looks like his right foot hits down last, which is good. Those are the only things I can critique based on this picture.

BTW, when people ask 'what's a coach supposed to say' when a coach says something inspiring about a player in his position group, 'nothing' or 'It’s good for him to get back out in the offseason and he’s shown improvement, too, because it’s his second time through,' are the the kinds of options that spring to mind. That praise didn't just faint, it's having a stroke.

I couldn't be more unimpressed with the guy. He was just so bad vs. the Cardinals.

That game literally kicked all the positive vibes I had about his capabilities right out of me.

My biggest fear for this season isn't the RB position, it isn't the DT spot, it's not safety... It's what happens if Romo goes down for any length of time.

Reason #87 Why the Cowboys shouldn't trade their #1 next draft for AD is because that pick could very well be used to draft a QB or use it as a combination of picks to move up in the draft to get a QB.

More like Reason #2. Maybe Reason #1 by the end of the season, Gaaaaaaawd forbid.

Empirical evidence is best and to a degree I agree with you but I do think there are mitigating factors. The Cardinals defense who is very talented. Bryant couldn't get separation and out OL was having a difficult time handling blitzes, stunts, and the like.

I want to see more.

Yep.

At running back if a guy goes down, the Cowboys can go out and get a Chris Johnson who's going to give them 10-15 snaps per game and a more than acceptable YPC average.

QB? I have zero illusions that the Cowboys could get a backup who could do much of anything.

This actually reminds me that this vaunted line still struggled mighty heavily with all-out blitz schemes last year and it's something Weeden should expect to see should he see the field during the season.
Monster blitzes. I'd like to see some of that shored up, communication and technique-wise by Pollack.

There's merit to that.

It's Weeden or no one at this point.

Mike, I generally like your posts but I couldn't disagree with you more here. If things go well for us this year, as we all assume they should, the Cowboys will have a lower 1st Rd pick next year than they did this year. Most quality QB's will be gone in the first 12 picks anyway, and holding out for an Aaron Rodgers-esqe situation to evolve like it did in 2005 is delusional thinking at best. Can you imagine the cost it would take to move up from picks 30-32 into the first 12 picks?!?!

The Cowboys worked out QB Bryce Petty in L.A. this spring. He was there for the taking in the 3rd Rd but yet we opted for OL Chaz Green, who, by early reports, doesn't look that hot. And why would you go all the way to LA to work out a player who's already in your backyard...unless, that is, you were high on him and wanted your workout (and interest) to be not so obvious? If we were concerned about getting at least an option for Romo's successor this year then we would have taken Petty with our 3rd pick. Again, he was there for the taking.

Me thinks the Cowboys already have a good idea of the QB crop in next year's draft and are willing to take a pass (at least in the 1st Rd) by trading away their 1st rd pick for a stud RB who's nickname speaks for itself - ALL DAY!

They got better and then seemed to take a step back when Free went out and then improved again. The first Washington game was frustrating as was that Cardinals game. Early in the year I thought Romo got beat up way too much for as many accolades the OL was getting.

Title of the thread makes it sound like Weeden has been in a coma... Then again, judging by his play, maybe he was. :)

Hahaha and people are worried about our running game.

Exactly.

The Cowboys could lose all the backs on their roster and I think they could find a guy who could come in and give them 80 yards on 20 carries.

But if Romo goes down... Ugh... 15 completions on 30 attempts for about 130 yards and 2 picks.

Aside from the AP mention, have to agree significantly here. GB did the smart thing with the Favre/Rodgers situation. Indianapolis almost looked to throw the season to get Luck. Can't count on the latter situation, or another Romo-esque lucky UFA find. I thought we might nab Petty to develop as a protege but that didn't happen. Weeden and Vaughan are not the answer.

I understand that having a draft pick at the end of the first round isn't a place to get a prime QB. BUT it's still a valuable piece. Heck it could take the first round pick next year, the second round pick and the first rounder in '17 in order to move up, but if the Cowboys trade that 1st rounder in '16... well there goes a potentially valuable bargaining chip.

“We worked out some guys this offseason and they went a little bit higher than we were willing to spend a pick for, and after those, there weren’t many guys we really felt great about drafting,” Cowboys quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson said. “Those middle four we talked about, but they went higher than we wanted to spend a pick for.”

Wilson said he’s seen improvement from Weeden in his second full offseason with the Cowboys. Weeden is entering the final year of his two-year minimum deal.

Wilson said Weeden has improved in several areas this offseason.

“The mental grasping of concepts and protections and what’s required and the level that we expect out there,” Wilson said, “he’s meeting that challenge.”

We drafted an OL who we could have got in the 5th-6th, and who might not make the team, instead of a replacement for a guy who might be the worst player in the NFL. This is the only thing I'm not satisfied with in the off season. I'm not interested in finding a Romo replacement yet. But, a Weeden upgrade is a glaring need, and is desperately needed. As good as we are, we all know what would happen if Tony went down.

While I'm not a big fan, my guess is the pecking order at QB in week one is Romo, Weeden and Vaughn.
