Pay the man!
Most beloved Cowboy since the triplets and Woody. Rid this country club atmosphere!
*Pause*
I have a Woodson throwback so I feel ya there (well maybe not to your extent)
Actually, the pause is more for your post, tho.. lol
There have been quite a few "beloved" stars since Woody. The issue is they fall out of favor and then fans want to boot them off the team. Fortunately for Dez, he had to win over fans, so he's on rock star status right now. Once he gets his money, the expectations will be off the charts...and he will never live up to the expectations fans equate with money. So I give it about 3 years and then we'll see if he's still as beloved.
Call me cynical.
If Dez matches the same emotion he does now, he will remain beloved (even on this board and with our fans). By "beloved" I am insinuating broad, almost universal board/fan support. We all have our favorite players but would be hard to find a player that has brought fans together as much as Dez has.
If anything our fans are too soft towards players and some fans feel we are being mean, hateful, etc bc we don't lose sleep over their departures. Some fans are team first, some fans are players first. Just different perspectives. Romo would be the only "star" on this team that gets consistent criticism. His first few seasons weren't justified (expectations) but his inability throughout his career to win do or die "elimination" games has welcomed this criticism. Team sport or not, his record in elimination games, and the ability to drive his team to the playoffs is lacking to this point.
Romo lost a lot of fans after the 44-6 beat down in a win or go home game and he says " if losing a football game is the worst thing to happen to me then I lived a pretty good life" I don't think he ever fully recovered from that comment. Fans tolerate him because he's the best qb on the roster but I guarantee you when Romo's time is up in Dallas and he only has one playoff win, the fan base is gonna rip him apart.
Fan base already rips him apart. But that's neither here nor there, because I don't want to turn this into a Romo thread.Romo lost a lot of fans after the 44-6 beat down in a win or go home game and he says " if losing a football game is the worst thing to happen to me then I lived a pretty good life" I don't think he ever fully recovered from that comment. Dez is a good guy to root for, but fans like winners, and if this team doesn't, he won't be beloved.I don't care how fiery you are. This team doesn't win, get to the playoffs, make some actual noise while in it? He'll be right in line with the Romos, Wares, and Wittens of this era.
Dez is without a doubt my favorite Cowboy.
