How can you not love this?

This guy took heat last season for being passionate and emotional. Leaving the field early was a mistake, but I wish more of this team's "mistakes" were a result of passion, competitiveness and desire to win.

Make no mistake about it, Dez Bryant may not be the highest paid or the most gifted player on this team (Romo/Tyron Smith), but he is the face of this franchise.

I have a Woodson throwback so I feel ya there (well maybe not to your extent;))

Actually, the pause is more for your post, tho.. lol

There have been quite a few "beloved" stars since Woody. The issue is they fall out of favor and then fans want to boot them off the team. Fortunately for Dez, he had to win over fans, so he's on rock star status right now. Once he gets his money, the expectations will be off the charts...and he will never live up to the expectations fans equate with money. So I give it about 3 years and then we'll see if he's still as beloved.

Call me cynical.

If Dez matches the same emotion he does now, he will remain beloved (even on this board and with our fans). By "beloved" I am insinuating broad, almost universal board/fan support. We all have our favorite players but would be hard to find a player that has brought fans together as much as Dez has.

If anything our fans are too soft towards players and some fans feel we are being mean, hateful, etc bc we don't lose sleep over their departures. Some fans are team first, some fans are players first. Just different perspectives. Romo would be the only "star" on this team that gets consistent criticism. His first few seasons weren't justified (expectations) but his inability throughout his career to win do or die "elimination" games has welcomed this criticism. Team sport or not, his record in elimination games, and the ability to drive his team to the playoffs is lacking to this point.

Romo lost a lot of fans after the 44-6 beat down in a win or go home game and he says " if losing a football game is the worst thing to happen to me then I lived a pretty good life" I don't think he ever fully recovered from that comment. Fans tolerate him because he's the best qb on the roster but I guarantee you when Romo's time is up in Dallas and he only has one playoff win, the fan base is gonna rip him apart.

And it would be warranted. 1 playoff win is pretty pitiful and I'm a Romo fan. Of course I would take everything into account (spotty OL, scheme, talent, etc.) and remember him as a great QB who could never put a great season together because of variable, x, y, etc. Great season implies playoffs as a minimum. Personal stats and ability, Romo is established. But his record is what it is...these teams were not "Archie Manning Saints" bad.

Fan base already rips him apart. But that's neither here nor there, because I don't want to turn this into a Romo thread.

Dez is a good guy to root for, but fans like winners, and if this team doesn't, he won't be beloved.I don't care how fiery you are. This team doesn't win, get to the playoffs, make some actual noise while in it? He'll be right in line with the Romos, Wares, and Wittens of this era.

I know this is odd considering your sig/screen name etc. but wasn't Woody still beloved during the losing seasons? I don't recall fans calling for his head or sandbagging him when he retired, etc. Day Nguyen shared similar praise from fans before his PLAY dropped off. Larry Allen was even given a somewhat "pass" his final 2 seasons even with his decline in play. Weze capable, harder to please than some fan bases? Definitely (in a good way).
