I know this is odd considering your sig/screen name etc. but wasn't Woody still beloved during the losing seasons? I don't recall fans calling for his head or sandbagging him when he retired, etc.

He had skins on the wall.. That gets you alot of leeway with fans.

Imagine if Michael Irvin did what he did then, now with all the losing that's been going on. Fans would be ballistic.

Good example :DThen why are we so quick to give that leeway to 8-8 "Stars"?

It is incremental the growing of Dez into the leader he should be.

What I want to see next is him acting like Irvin in practice and challenging the DBs continuously. Irvin asked them who was going to stop him. His complete attack of practice and his wanting to be the berst made that team. They had players who were special, but Irvin galvanized the team.

I want to see Dez step into that role.

Love him now. Would love to see him be the Irvin of this team.

Because those stars are/were high performers. Football is the ultimate team game and ultimately no matter if Romo is beasting out of his mind or Ware is hulksmashing all over fools, you can't compensate for that slick ball in Seattle affecting one of the easiest ball transactions in the game or Crayton slowing down on his route or Jacques Reeves actually defending one of those Manning throws at the end of the half. There are so many factors that go into a team losing that pointing the fingers, because the "star" didn't overcompensate for others failures.

Dez definitely showed signs of this last TC (dominating whomever lined up opposite). I truely feel he delegates being the ultimate team leader to Romo and crew as you can see through his interviews. Tony, Tony, Tony. He knows who he should befriend but isn't ready/able to take over the whole team as of yet.

Unlike some of the others who have been here in the recent past, I don't think money will change Dez. His competitiveness is what sets him apart and rarely do you see guys who are as competitive as he change with money.
It never happened with Irvin, same with guys like Rice, Lewis and Brady and it won't happen with Bryant...and no I'm not comparing him to those guys in terms of productivity and rings....just his competitive spirit at this point.

How can you not love this?

This guy took heat last season for being passionate and emotional. Leaving the field early was a mistake, but I wish more of this team's "mistakes" were a result of passion, competitiveness and desire to win.

Make no mistake about it, Dez Bryant may not be the highest paid or the most gifted player on this team (Romo/Tyron Smith), but he is the face of this franchise.

may not be the most highest paid...but he is by far the most gifted. Sorry had to correct you.

THen Topny needs to speak with him and have him step out of the shadow. Just my opinion.

Actually, the pause is more for your post, tho.. lol

There have been quite a few "beloved" stars since Woody. The issue is they fall out of favor and then fans want to boot them off the team. Fortunately for Dez, he had to win over fans, so he's on rock star status right now. Once he gets his money, the expectations will be off the charts...and he will never live up to the expectations fans equate with money. So I give it about 3 years and then we'll see if he's still as beloved.

Call me cynical.

If Dez continues to show the heart that he does, he will always be a favorite.

The reason why guys, like Roy, T-New, Jenkins, Hamlin, Austin ect....got chased out the door is because when pressure got tight, they folded. They also got to use to losing, we have not seen this type of passion from a cowboy in Years, maybe since Irvin. So no, he won't die and go away.

The day he starts hanging his head, and just taking the hits like "Yup ok" that is when fans will toss him out the door

There is a reason fans are not all the way ready to toss Demarco Murray out the door even though he has been injured. While his passion might not be the same as Dez, he is right there behind him, along with Lee.

Great post! As soon as Dez resembles our "leaders" or accepts losing as "business as usual" is when we will lose that connection. This is actually why Dez is respected so much. He doesn't resemble the country club.

What was the image?

I googled Teddy KGB and hit image. A full page came up. This was one of them. But looking closely at Damon's face, this was right before he said, I can do this all day long Teddy.

Then he came back with, It doesn't matter, it was your money anyway.

I think.

Ahhh, right after he breaks even (debt to the professor and settling Worm's debt) and he decides to go for broke. Very underrated movie. Love that he ditched the sqaure life for his true passion!

Romo lost a lot of fans after the 44-6 beat down in a win or go home game and he says " if losing a football game is the worst thing to happen to me then I lived a pretty good life" [/b]I don't think he ever fully recovered from that comment.[/b] Fans tolerate him because he's the best qb on the roster but I guarantee you when Romo's time is up in Dallas and he only has one playoff win, the fan base is gonna rip him apart.

Yeah, he didn't recover....after getting a Playoff WIN the following season over the team he lost to the season before. Oh & he SWEPT THEM 3-0.
There was nothing wrong with Romos comment. At the end of the day, he's playing a GAME. Had he lost a family member, THAT would be a much WORSE thing to happen to him, than losing a football game, when another season is around the corner to win another one.
If this is as far as Romo will ever take us, I'm fine with that. Given what he has to work with, some should be SURPRISED we are even in CONTENTION for a Playoff birth ( just about ) Every Season. Anyone who would rip him after he's gone, is an Idiot & never deserved to root for Tony in the first place.

True but if he gets a ring within those next 3 years many will get a lot more leeway.
