Iron Mike gave that 49ers team such a good young core of players.

Also players in the trenches. He built that team the exact opposite than we had.

Mike : Trenches ----> skill positions

Jerry Jones: Skill positions ----> Trenches.

I assume that the players were acquired primarily by the GM, but Singletary did instill a sense of discipline in that team and those young players. The situation that Harbaugh was the complete opposite of what Garrett inherited. Wade ruined the mentality of the team by having Zero discipline.

But, but he yells and chews out players on the sideline, thought thats all it takes to be a great nfl coach, i know ive read that around here

Singletary is a great leader. However, he never developed the chops as a coach. He was out of football for 10 full years after retiring as a player. He got promoted really quickly because he was such an outstanding leader. The 49ers did him a bit of a disservice. Instead of surrounding him with high quality veteran assistants, he had mediocre coordinators. You can hire a guy who is just a leader but you can't make it work unless you've got great assistants.

That's a good point -- Singletary shook Vernon Davis to the core. He threw him off the field. Davis went to his office to apologize and Singletary threw him out because he was still so angry. Davis cried. He woke up the next day more mature and has been a very good player since.

You don't get that from a Wade Phillips.

Yep, imagine Singletary with MartyB and Ratliff.

Why does the photo in the article look like it was taken in the 70's?

Whoever took the photo is a lousy photographer. He overexposed the picture with a direct flash instead of bouncing the light off the ceiling or using off-camera flash. The color balance is also terrible. As a result, it looks a lot like a photo taken by one of those 110 film cameras with a junky flash bulb right on top from the 70s.

thinking of starting a thread titled "Why I'm thankful Dallas did not hire Singletary". My first bullet point of 10 bullets will be him mooning his team after a game.

Former Baylor and Chicago Bears linebacker Mike Singletary joined KRLD-FM 105.3. Here are some highlights

On the Cowboys

Mike Singletary: Well, I see No. 29. The offensive line has been moving people around and he's been running the ball very effectively. I think the relationship between the quarterback and the receivers has been great. I think Romo has been throwing the ball well. And of course the beast out there, No. 88, has been doing a great job of going up and getting that ball. I think it's just a matter of them continuing to find their identity and stick to it.

On interviewing for the Cowboys head coaching job in 2007?

Mike Singletary: I guess anytime, as a coach if you go into an interview thinking that 'I'm only here because I'm a minority,' you got no chance at all. For me, I'm always of the mindset that anytime I interview for a job it's because I really have a shot at the job. For me, I think thankfully I didn't get the job. Knowing what I know now, I wasn't ready.

well in fairness, he has lost 3 of last 4 and still often does not have them ready.

The ready thing is mere opinion.

And it is fair to say he has no defense whatsoever. Jason Garrett could coach another 40 years with multiple teams and he'll never have less talent on defense than he does right now.

He says he wasn't ready.

Interesting, but not the most revealing answer..

Something tells me JG wouldn't be as honest about his lack of "ability" at the time even with the track record that has proven the same applies to his qualifications. (Had to:D)

No, we would gladly take out scheming an opponent or making preparations week to week to exploit opponent weaknesses. But clapping during good plays and arguing for questionable calls is all he seems qualified for. So we would take that over nothing.o_O
