Historically, the Cowboys have been an organization built on flash. Substance too, but definitely flash. The new stadium is a continuation of that.

Bradie James said this year's team needs to embrace the ugly. Monday's 21-7 win vs. Carolina certainly wasn't pretty but it was effective.

"I think we don't need to be sexy anymore, you know what I mean?" James said. "I think we just need to go out and get ugly wins. I'll take the ugly wins. The sexiness, trying to make big plays and just all the gambling that we do, we don't need to do that defensively. This team needs to just play ball. It doesn't have to be glamorous. Just go out there and get a win and we'll take it and move forward. There's no reason to bring sexy back."

Justin Timberlake might think otherwise.

Amen.

The fans of this team will never embrace it though.

They made the decision to play this way in the offseason. Now we are seeing it and it is successfull.

If people could just learn to live with it and get behind it everything will be good.

But knowing cowboys fans and the usual mentality that prevails in that crowd, winning ugly will never be enough.

Bradie James: "I think we don't need to be sexy anymore"
Linebacker Bradie James wants the Cowboys defense to just go out there and play physical, hard-nosed, straight-up defense. Forget about the fancy stuff, he says. Well, he said it like this:

"I think we don’t need to be sexy anymore. I think we just need to go out there and get ugly wins. I’ll take these ugly wins. The sexiness and trying to make big plays and all the gambling that we do, we don’t need to do that defensively. I think this team just needs to go out there and just play ball. It doesn’t have to be glamorous, just go out there and get a win and then we’ll take it and we’ll move forward. There’s no need to bring sexy back, just go out there and win and play hard."

I'm not sure if James is indicting Wade Phillips' scheme as being overly involved with gimmicks or not. In the opener at Tampa, the Cowboys got burned in the first half while trying to stunt and run blitz, and actually outschemed itself. At halftime, James and fellow inside linebacker Keith Brooking went to Phillips and told him they needed to go to their base defense. Which they did and had more success.

thats exactly what the cowboys need to do, forget all of this glitz and glamour, get down, get your knuckles dirty, scrape your knee, keep your stamina up, and play hard for 60 minutes, but like bradie said, just play ball, and ratliff said awhile ago, shut up and play ball;

This is funny to me. If Parcells had this kind of talent, do you think that he could win a championship with it?

Parcells would instantly replace Romo with Vinny Testaverde... so no, I don't think so

well the part i dont like is this;
in reality they tried that winning ugly against the giants and you saw how that worked;

what i dont like personally is this;
wade first admitted that he didnt run the blitz enough in training camp because he didnt want to get players hurt;
then wade had to fix the run defense after the tampa bay game
the giants caught him on that, because fixing the run defense he didnt have time to fix the pass defense

to me if your the head coach you should see in practice what needs correcting and fix it, not wait till after the game and say oh,
i thought we would play better in man to man defense,

to me that says your not working hard enough in practices with the players, yourself and the coaches

that your waiting for teams to show you your weaknesses then you try to fix them, that to me isnt being a very good head coach, let alone a very good defensive coordinator

In short, Wade is a terrible head coach.

The Cowboys will always be glitzy and glamorous. The spotlight will always be on the players to put on a good sexy show. They are arguably the face/team of the NFL. The NFL needs sexy thats why they love having the fun, exciting, sexy cities like New Orleans and Miami regularly hosting the Super Bowl.

I learned to embrace it in 1989... Been waiting a long time to hear this again. A W is a W no matter what the score or who the opponent.

I like what Wade said in his PC today. He said (paraphrasing) "I've noticed that the so-called ugly wins happen when the defense plays well. So I don't think they're ugly at all. Actually, that's the kind of game I like."

Amen.

If you were at the Cowboys Stadium on MNF, then you would know what theebs is talking about. Crowd to me was pathetic and ignorant or as ignorant a football crowd can be.

Wanting Romo to throw deep etc, when there is a clear Cover 2 defense, and they were deep cover 2 too. Booing becuase Offense bogged down in first half.

I think partially Jerry is at fault and his stadium is at fault. Before anyone get excited about that statement, as great the stadium is, the amount of money you have to fork out, Fans would want the entertainment for the money. And you can't blame them for it either. Hence I think fans are going to be more impatient with the team.

JErry needs to find a way to lower prices I think, if not his sales are going to go down after first season. As great the stadium it is, I wouldn't consistently pay that much price every year.

Last time I checked a win is a win no matter what the stats. Do you think the Pittsburgh Steelers fans cared about how many ugly wins they had last year when they won the Superbowl?

Lot of fans in Cowboys fans live in the 90s seems like. I am not saying I don't either sometimes. But an average fan, thinks 90s Dynasty is still possible and most fans are myopic in that sense, but Cowboys fans are moreso seems like, at least in Dallas area.

If anything New England should provide a lesson. All that domination in Regular season was for naught, becuase they couldn't grind it out in post season. They wouldn't have even reached SB, if not for Chargers decimated by injuries. EVen then Chargers almost beat NE.

Its a good thing there are not high expectations like last year of this team, if not, this team wouldn't even reach .500 with this constant questioning of every play and move.

Embrace the ugly. Sounds like something that might come from Hos's wife's mouth.
