“I must emphasize, Roc Nation, Jay-Z, the key people in Roc Nation did a marvelous job of convincing us that managing Dez and managing him with his off the field, with his marketing opportunities, with his finances, that they’re a group that will really make a contribution to Dez,” Jerry Jones said during a Wednesday conference call. “They were very significant in us doing this deal with Dez.”
The Joneses flew to New York on Tuesday to meet with Bryant’s representatives. They presented a formal proposal around 3 a.m. that included more guaranteed money and a higher total value than their previous offers, according to a source. Both sides then returned to work out the details during the final hours of Wednesday’s 3 p.m. franchise tag deadline.
The five-year deal is worth $70 million, including $45 million guaranteed with a $20 million signing bonus. Of that signing bonus, Bryant will receive a third in the next 15 days, a third will be spread throughout his checks during the season and the other third will be paid on March 15. According to a source, there are no safeguards in the contract regarding off-the-field issues.
“As you know, the league has been addressing conduct policy significantly over the last 18 months,” Jerry Jones said. “Consequently, we put into any new contracts the things that the league wants in the contract relative to conduct, and Dez has the same thing in his and no more than other veterans that we recently signed.”

One thing is for sure. The Cowboys were bluffing, and they blinked.
Jerry and Stephen got on an airplane and went to New York to make sure they got this done. If they were OK with the franchise tag scenario, they could have done this from the home offices. I'm not sure if Dez' threats were real, or if it prompted the trip. I tend to doubt it.
The LAST thing this team needed was a training camp where every is player is constantly asked, "Do you think Dez will sit out games?", "Have you talked to Dez?", etc. Dez, Dez, Dez, Dez. For a team with genuine Super Bowl aspirations, that wouldn't have been good.
Bottom line: Romo doesn't have many more seasons. Nor does Jerry. This is no time to quibble over a few million dollars.

Good to know Jay-J is down with Jay-Z
First of all we all should remember Jay Z is a life long Cowboy Fan. Also both men came from very humble beginnings.....We all know what Jay Z did to get to where he is and even though its not said we know Mr. Jones path was not totally clean. Both men in my opinion have paid their dues, admitted their mistakes and become better people and business men.

.................I don't.
and Dez did not get all he wanted. There was no blinking there was giving by both sides. Did Dez get the deal that CJ got? NO
I haven't seemed to agree with you a whole lot lately (although I typically have until recently)... but you're dead on correct here. The team did not need that. There are enough distractions just being the Dallas Cowboys.
Oh, that's true, too. I just mean that any thoughts of having a risk-free franchise season were just that....thoughts. They intended to get this done for cheap, and they didn't.
Neither side got the best of the other. This was a fair deal.
If we agree too much, what's the dadgum point? Right?
We need footballage to start soon.
