Obviously, not a very serious injury, but enough to slow him appreciably. The vid should tell you -- Newman caught him pretty easily. Even if Newman is faster, there is no way on earth he tracks down a healthy Moss that easily.

You guys seemed to really enjoy yesterday's debate about whether the Cowboys receivers or defensive backs would have the fastest 4 x 100 team.

I decided we should take it a step further.

You can pick a quartet of receivers or a quartet of defensive backs or a quartet of running backs, but let's put together a 4 x 100 dream team using only Cowboys' players.

I'll take receivers Alexander Wright, Terry Glenn, Joey Galloway and Bob Hayes and blow away any team you put together.

Any doubters?

Well, I'd take TD, Deion, Hershell and Carl Lewis.

Lewis never played for us but, we did draft him in the 12th round of the 1984 NFL Draft.

Walker won the GA high school championship as a senior in the shot put, 100 yd dash and 200 yd dash. His time in the 100 yd dash as a high school kid was 9.93. I've seen one 100 yd dash at 9.3 but don't know where it comes from. He barely missed being on an Olympic relay team. I've seen one time in the 100 m at 9.96. Most of you just aren't old enough to have seen him in college. I wonder how fast he would have been had he trained for sprinting. I've seen figures of 9.1 for Hayes in that Olympic relay where he caught and passed the Russian. Can anyone confirm that unofficial time for him in that official time?

Like I said earlier in this post, people run much faster than there Open 100M times in a relay. You are given a running head start, and your split starts when you touch the baton.

and cowboys 2233, Moss was injured way later in the season, Newman ran him down when he was healthy. I think its humorous you said "Newman can probably run a 10.3 at this point of his career, but T.O can still run a 10.2"

So you factor in age for Newman is much younger, and has a vast track pedigree yet T.O gets a faster with age? Nice logic.

I'm the biggest TO fan on earth and I know Newman is faster than he is. It's just good to see they are having fun and are enjoying each other. Didn't get to see this side of the team with Parcells around.

I say, just let them race - Have two races - First group then second group, and the best of both those groups will race, and then it's settled.

That's not lost on me. However, at the time his speed was in another universe. Then he unleashed even more speed. People just didn't run that fast. There is video out there on his anchor in that Olympics. You judge how fast he was.

Adam had a great post about how fast humans have been able to run.

Well, the reason I remember it so vividly is because of the fact that Newman ran him down so easily. And then when I heard that Moss was essentially dinged the entire year, I said "Ah, that explains it."

If Newman ran down a completely healthy Moss that easily, I would have to rethink my stance on Owens vs. Newman, but again, I have my suspicions about Moss' health. And again, they were in a foot race just last year and I wish someone had vid of that, because Newman was laboring to keep up with Moss, while Moss was running with his usual smooth style.

But I was willing to give Newman the benefit of the doubt on that too, because of his foot injury earlier in the year.

Apparently there is an unofficial 100 YARD time of 9.02s for TO from Challenge of the Superstars in 2001. This apparently scales to a 9.85s in the 100m as 100m is farther than 100 yards. See the link below for description and picture.

I searched all over for Pacman's 100m time from highschool, but to no avail. If someone wants to take a crack at it, 2000 or 2001...Westlake High School, Atlanta Georgia. According to Wiki, he was all-american in track. It didn't say what events.

You don't smoke an ACC track star in an impromptu 40 yard race, win two consecutive Superstars competition 100 yard races, set the Superstars competition record in the 100 yard dash (a competition that has seen the likes of Herschel Walker, Anthony Miller, Darrell Green, Deion Sanders, Willie Gault, and Joey Galloway run in it) in the second one, and blow past DeAngelo Hall and catch up to Julius Jones on a breakaway TD run (and numerous other players...you guys should see the way he closed a 15 yard gap on Lions CB Robert Bailey to about 5 yards on a breakaway INT by the time the latter got in the endzone) and then get SMOKED by Terrence Newman. I'm sorry--personally, I don't think T.O. is as fast as he was in 2001-2003, but he'd still be very difficult for Newman to beat, 40 or 100.

And what's with all this "T.O. isn't a track guy." Not only did he letter 4 times in track in high school (like most skill position football players) but he ran anchor leg on the UT-Chattanooga track team. He's an explosive starter, too--if you've ever seen him in WR drills, he gets to about top speed in 3 steps...or watch his 75 yard catch-and-run against the Bucs in 2003. His burst is ridiculous.

Interesting discussion....as long as the coaches never let it actually take place...you can bet your bottom dollar there would be at minimum of at least two pulled hamstrings if these guys were racing 100.

Ahahaha... I'm clueless?

Using impromptu races against guys who ran BS football 40 times as evidence?

Using closing the gap on Robert Bailey -- who the hell is he? -- as evidence?

Using Superstars -- The Superstars! -- races as evidence? Did you also read that the timer visibly stopped at least a step before T.O. crossed the tape, or did you just leave that out? Sure, that means he can run a 9.85, which would only be one of the faster times ever run! At The Superstars!

And wow, he ran anchor for UT-Chattanooga! That means a lot. Why don't you bust out some of his times -- not relay times with a running start, but legit 100m times -- for your argument? What did he run at UT-C?

I won't call you clueless like you did me. It looks more like you got your feelings hurt because I dared to say that the Almighty T.O. was very fast but not the absolute fastest. Why does that upset some people? T.O. is a great player and he's devastating on the field. Don't take it personally that someone else might be just a little better in one area.
