It took a couple of brow-beating, hard-nosed reporter types to get Troy Aikman stirred up over what is now referred to as "The Esiason Affair."
As much as I tried the other day, I couldn't instigate anything. But on his weekly stop with The Ticket's Dunham & Miller show Thursday, Aikman said he would have been upset if criticism of his work during the Cowboys-Cardinals game came from someone he respected. I can't quote Aikman verbatim because I was driving carpool when he said it and Plano police take a dim view of those who write and drive.
Aikman actually has taken Esiason's shot pretty calmly considering Aikman has thrown everything he has into this broadcasting thing. If anything, I would wager he bends over backwards not to favor the Cowboys when they are on Fox. There's really no harsher criticism of a broadcaster than saying he is not honest.( I guess Esiason could accuse me of being biased for my hometown broadcaster.)
I did hear from a prominent friend of Aikman's who is really riled about Esiason's comments. He had this to say about Boomer:
"Actually, since (Boomer) has only ever done Monday night games, he has probably never broadcast a game involving the Bengals, Jets or Cardinals. So who would know if he were biased or not."
Meanwhile, back in New York, Neil Best, who writes a media blog for Newsday spoke to Aikman's boss mentor Ed Goren about the Esiason Affair. Said Ed: "It's ridiculous. He's a professional."
I know some of you may be thinking what's the big deal? All I can tell you is that The Esiason Affair has prompted the most interest this blog has had in its storied one-month history. It also allowed me to post rare triple linkage in this one blog item. It was only five years ago, the triple linkage was believed to be virtually impossible.

This just in: Neil Best reports in his Newsday blog that Boomer Esisason is standing by his assertion that Troy Aikman delivered a biased broadcast during Sunday's Cowboys-Cardinals game. Funny, Esiason, who does a morning radio show on New York power WFAN, always qualifies his statement by saying how much he likes Aikman etc...etc...
And by the way, since I always second guess the things they do on TV, I'd like to second guess the folks who labeled Neil's blog "Watchdog." I would have called it "The Best Blog" and let it run from there.

Troy Aikman, Boomer Esiason still not on same page
Doggone it, I was afraid of this. The Boomer vs. Troy tiff isn't going away.
Here is the latest from Barry Horn in Dallas on this. (Barry asked me to check out his new blog recently but I hadn't gotten around to it yet. Now I have.)
Sounds like Mr. Aikman is getting increasingly annoyed.
For Barry and his Dallas readers who do not listen to WFAN on a regular basis, Mr. Esiason addressed this matter on the air this morning, reiterating how much he likes and respects Troy's football analysis and saying that he never before has noticed a pro-Cowboys bias from him, but not backing off from his assertion that he sensed it Sunday.
As for the idea that Boomer has any emotional or direct ties to the Cardinals, one of his former teams, he laughed off that notion.
