We always think our (insert round here) picks are good. That doesn't always pan out and some would say that we do worse then most other teams in this area. I just hope that the team is correct this year.

There should be a significant difference in the performance of this class over most years in that we are picking at the top of this round, much earlier than most years. It is easier to get a star player drafting at #4 than when you draft in the teens or 20's.

Except the Superbowl winners (Payton was both not healthy and not elite).

There's a blip now and again, but year in and year out, the winning teams have a single common factor. Good quarterbacking.

I didn't say you win Super Bowls. I said you'll be very competitive with a healthy QB and OL and marginal talent elsewhere.

I guarantee you a cornerback with zero interceptions won't mean much of a difference at all. He's just a spoke in a wheel. Elliott could be monumentally impactful.

Would you have liked to have Ladanian Tomlinson? Well, I think you just got him.

What is competative? In games, .500 team? I hope that as an organization, we are not in it for that. I hope that we are in it to win championships and consistently compete for titles. You will never do that unless you have a good Defense. You may be able to make the playoffs but if you can't stop other teams Offenses, you aren't going to advance much IMO. That, to me, is not what any team should be about.

I agree with this but the only team to ever win a Championship, if I'm not mistaken, with a league leading rusher was the Cowboys with Emmitt. It's only happened once so while I do agree that you must have a QB, you don't have to have an all world RB. You can just have a good running game and that will do it for you. However, you have to have a good defense.

I agree but the comment is about later rounds and not the first round.

New Orleans won a title without much of a defense. So did Green Bay and Indianapolis.

There are lots of ways to win championships. I agree, a great defense is awesome to have and my preferred way, but it'll be years before that can be built here, and Romo doesn't have years.

Going to have to do it the Indy and New Orleans way.

That's because, typically, running backs like Emmitt haven't historically had great quarterbacks. And who cares about "leading rusher" anyway? I just want an elite back.

Look at the crap Adrian Peterson has had to play with. Same for Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Barry Foster, and others.

But when you get a combo like Aikman/Emmitt, Elway/Davis, Kelly/Thomas, Wilson/Lynch, Roethlisberger/Bettis/Bell....it's magical. You don't think Rodgers is hurting since Lacy got fat?

Not entirely. New Orleans was 8th in the league in Defense in 2009. Green Bay was bad, I will give you that but what they did do on Defense was turn the ball over. I believe they were second in the league that year in Turn Overs and if Pittsburgh doesn't commit three Turnovers in that Super Bowl, to none for Green Bay, the Packers loss that game. Indy was interesting. They were not good in the Regular Season the year they won but, in the Post Season, they were the number 1 Defense of all the teams in the post season that year in Turn Overs. I think they got something like 7 INTs and 3 fumbles.

Still in all, over the history of the game, it proves that you need a defense to win. Are there exceptions? Sure, but the overwhelming statistical evidence suggests that you have to have, at least, an average to above average defense to win and usually, above average. A team can get lucky, like the ones we looked at above but you usually need turnovers to happen or basically the other team to make mistakes for you. That's not something you can count on.

What is Elite? Rodgers is hurting because he doesn't have a defense.

Truth is, everybody does about the same. The teams with elite healthy quarterbacks win. The teams without them lose. And on it goes.

Eli manning/joe flacco/Peyton manning(2015). Those are Super Bowl winners. Plenty of teams that get by with a good run game and a stout d.

On a side note, the Falcons signed their entire draft class already. Why haven't we signed anybody? Are we facing a bunch of hold outs?

Stephen has been busy giving his evaluations to the media. There is only so much time in the day.
