Sure, I consider taking a flyer on him in the third round depending on who else is on the draft board. But I am sure not going to spend my 2nd rounder on an underachiever who have red flags.
This is where I think he comes into play, too, if he comes into play at all.
I disagree, and won't black bean a kid with some real football ability. College is a different world from the professional ranks, and with his set, he at least has a chance of adapting and growing to that level. 2nd round would be a defined fall...just as with Gregory. We're still banking on him, and rightfully so.
I think he'll get drafted by somebody in the 2nd. It just wouldn't be me.
But my knocks on the kid aren't just for the pot/falling out of a window incidents. There are a couple of factors. 1, the chance we took on Gregory did not pay off early on. 2, there are a lot of good DLs in this draft, so teams in the market for one are going to have options. 3, Nkemdiche also has a reputation for being lazy on some plays and there are questions about how important football is to him. This last one is the reason why I personally don't think Dallas would take a chance on him in the 2nd. As athletically talented as he is, he's too big of a risk there where there are other very good players who are much safer picks.
In the third round, however, he's in the territory where Gregory was when we took the chance on him. If we're going to do it at all, that's where we ought to do it: where he's a clear value over every other player on the board.
I agree on the reasons why he brings up some questions. No argument. He does possess enough talent, despite arguments, that they warrant a little higher level of acceptance...for a kid becoming a 'rook.'
Collins had some serious issues at the beginning of last season, so different sides of issues are there as well...and Collins hit home on a homerun.

Didn't Collins coach post a sign with his name and other players on it for being lazy? IF he is there at #34, I would grab him without hesitation. there isn't a 100 % guarantee for any player.
Taking the chance on Collins cost us nothing. Taking a chance on Nkemdiche could cost us a really good player elsewhere. I'd be all for Nkemdiche as a CFA, though.
Second round is where during the near past, if a player fell for reasons, and was still quite a talent, the gamble was taken there. If he isn't on the board, that goes to evaluations of character and criminal activity beyond casual interplay.
Generally speaking, you're right. But we're sitting at 34 in that round. Too many good players left in those top 5 picks of the second round. Somebody good with no character concerns is going to be there.
Valid reason...
Don't get me wrong, either. I can see the guy becoming a beast in the NFL, too. He's just a risk at a pick where I want a higher degree of certainty.

Oh man, I'm already crying in my beer about missing out possibly, on Rankins.
Give me Rankins. He produces. Could be another Aaron Donald.
what about Billings
