...The Cowboys went into the 2015 offseason looking to upgrade the cornerback position. They believe they’ve done that with first-round pick Byron Jones.

Dallas also signed free agent Corey White, who played the previous three seasons in New Orleans. Not only do those additions help at cornerback, but both could play a significant role at safety.

“In today’s NFL, if you’re not a starter, you’re not the left corner, you’re not the right corner, you got to be versatile and you have to be able to do multiple jobs,” Cowboys defensive back coach Jerome Henderson said. “So that’s why we’re training Corey White and Byron Jones to do multiple things. The more they can do for us, the more value they have...

The Cowboys have been shortchanging themselves in the secondary for ages. I'm hoping they've learned their lesson (the hard way) and have since committed themselves to attaining the necessary depth to deliver sound coverage once and for all. Byron Jones and Corey White just might provide the impetus for their transition to considerably more solid and consistent pass coverage in 2015. IMO, it's a hurdle that's overdue to be cleared.

To me, this entire secondary is getting a lot more competitive. As to the cornerbacks, I'm really hoping they are a quality group as appears to be the direction now.

I see a lot more depth than most at CB.

I'm 100% for Jones going to FS.

We have Carr, Scandrick, Claiborne, Patmon, and White at CB. A good group in my opinion.

That isn't really depth in this league. Carr has been inconsistent, Scandrick is probably a top 10 corner. Claiborne is coming off double knee surgeries and a shoulder injury, and just said he lost over 20% of his bodyweight in the off season. I am not expecting much out of him. Keep Jones at CB and he is Carr's replacement next year.

This

I think you are more likely to see White getting snaps at FS them Jones

The CB's and secondary overall should look even better with an improved pass rush once Hardy gets on the field...

Everyone knew the off season mantra - upgrade the pass rush. Beyond that anything else is a bonus and I believe we have improved the back end. Not sure I would use the word 'excellent' to describe our CB situation but it looks far more promising than a year ago.

I didnt realize White is a 4.29-4.39 40 guy.

Either way, we need an upgrade at FS. I think we need to move Wilcox to SS and start a more "centerfielder" type at FS.

Its time to stop starting a SS type safety at both spots.

There is more than a fluid deep safety that can be usefully played.

When Claiborn plays an entire game at the level of potential where he was selected and some projected, then i will start to watch him closely and allow myself to be persuaded by subsequent success. Until that day comes, he is a bust in my mind.

Also so own it, I was in favor of his drafting at the time. Evidently that was misplaced.

Watching our game against New Orleans last year makes me wish we had kept Sterling Moore instead of essentially trading him for White.

White was awful, but in his defense he was having to start at corner. He might be better in a backup corner role or at safety (which I think he is better suited to play).
