News: DMN: RB Ryan Williams: Cowboys made me ‘fall in love with football’

Very interesting comments about the money. To put this in perspective, on the practice squad he made about $6,300 a week. Had he taken one of the ten offers to join an active roster, he would have made anywhere from $29,100 to $37,940 a week.

That is a staggering amount of money to leave on the table because of his Love for the Cowboys.

Compare that to Demarco Murray, who bypassed an historic opportunity with the Cowboys, and instead went to a hated rival solely for more money, which in the grand scheme of things (and taking into account Texas lack of state taxes) did not amount to a whole lot more.

I hope Murray is sitting at home this January watching Williams and the Cowboys make a deep run into the playoffs.

What exactly does this mean? smh

I didn't believe it in December when Babe Laufenberg tweeted about it, and I still don't believe it today. It's a hard pill for me to swallow that a guy would sit on the practice squad with 10+ teams blowing up his phone.

Some people have their priorities in different order than others. He says he loves playing for the Cowboys and that it is not about money. If it was about money, he could have pulled a Murray and left.

What happens is when humans have a limited perspective based on limited experiences, they often are completely and utterly wrong in their interpretations of the world around them. Fact.

Good lord, how can you not want this guy to succeed after this?? His loyalty to the Cowboys is arguably irrational, given the situation. But that makes its all the more profound. This guy is putting it all on the line, risking so much, to make it with the Cowboys this year.

If his body can play at 80% of his mind, then I think our running backs will be Randle as starter and Williams as our 3rd down back.
You mean Williams as the starter. Randle will back him up.

I know what he said, I just don't believe it.

Loved him out of Virginia Tech, thought he got a raw deal here with the Cardinals. If healthy, I feel he's more talented than Randle and Dunbar.

We've only seen a few plays from him in last year's pre-season, but you could tell he has an "it" factor. I can't wait to see what he can do.

I dont think Williams has the wiggle or break away speed of Randle or Dunbar. That's why I think as long as Randle can show consistency and endurance he will win the starting job. However I think Williams is more of a power back and will make McFadden expendible, unless McFadden can suddenly turn things around, which I do not expect.

JJ has already compensated him for his loyalty.
Good read, it's obvious he has his head on straight and is a RKG. Healthy, I would take him over Randle just because I just don't think Randle has his, you know what, together. Hope he can stay healthy.

Really like the guy. He feels about the Cowboys the way we fans do... and that is rare.

That is a guy who has had some bad experiences with another franchise and who has been 100% treated fairley and honestly by Dallas, IMO.

I'm sure he knew he'd have a chance to compete for a job this season after taking all of last year to get 100% healthy and acclimated to the team.

I also think players really like playing for Garrett. He is honest with them and he plays the guys who have earned it. Everyone can respect a coach like that... and they do.

I really liked Williams in last year's pre season and I think he can really help the team a lot if he stays healthy. He runs physically like Murray did but he's more elusive.

Williams, Randle, and McFadden can certainly carry the load. They're going to surprise some people, IMO.

On how many teams tried to get him on their active roster last season:

Williams: “I can’t remember exactly, but I know it was between five and 10.”

On why he didn’t leave; it would have been a lot more money:

Williams: “Money is not an issue for me. I feel like when you chase money, you’re chasing the wrong thing. I’m chasing happiness. The Cowboys have always been my favorite team since I can remember. The Cowboys made me fall in love with football. I’m thinking about the bigger picture, and that’s Ryan Williams being happy. Set aside from everything else, the money is always going to be there. I grew up — my mother never made money like this, and she raised three grown boys by herself. So if I can grow up in that household with the money that she made I can live life easily with the money that I’m making now. So money isn’t a big thing. It’s the dream. It’s almost surreal because ea lot of these players grew up with a favorite team and probably went through the draft thong that they would be drafted by their favorite team. I ended up not doing that, but luckily I ended up being with my favorite team so everything happens for a reason, and I really feel like God has been on my side.”

On what team looked like it might not have been a bad situation for him:

Williams: “You know what, any time my agent called me, I said ‘no.’ I told him to decline every team, regardless of what was going on. I didn’t care who called, where they’re from, what they was offering; I wanted to be right here. Because you know what, it’s bigger than that. Not many times you can go into an organization and you can fall in love with the coaches, you can fall in love with the system, you can fall in love with the trainers. Everything about this organization made me want to be here. I don’t want to go anywhere else where I’m not happy. I don’t want to go anywhere else where I don’t like the coach. I don’t want to go anywhere else where I feel like something is being said about me which shouldn’t be said about me, because it’s not right. I want to be right here.”

On not being a part of the team last year on Sundays:

Williams: “I wouldn’t’ say it was that difficult, but
