Bob Sturm analyzes the Dallas Cowboys' loss to the Carolina Panthers on Thanksgiving.

What's your reaction to Tony Romo's injury and what it means?

It's obviously catastrophic. Everyone is aware of what it means: the slightest crack of the 2015 door has slammed shut. This team is probably left to wonder what could have been. It looks like the injury of September and November are the same one, reminding me of Oklahoma Sooners' Sam Bradford of 2009. He got hurt in early September and tried to hurry back, and maybe his first game back, he re-aggravated it to the point he was lost for the season. If a hit like today, which i felt was not any severe hit, could break that collarbone again, then perhaps he hurried back a little too early. That would be the cheap media second guess.

Romo's era is coming to end by his own failure to protect himself by throwing the ball away. Trying to hard to make plays has come back to haunt him. Great heart and hell of a competitor but he is not 21yrs old anymore

Most of that isn't on him. Garrett/Linehan have a high portion of their plays in this scheme designed to be longer routes that take too long to develop. By the time most QBs are throwing the ball, he still has to wait on it to develop. This offensive scheme is a horrible system in todays NFL.

Johnny Manziel, Kaepernick and RGIII come on down.......

Ugh. All wastes of time, IMO.

Yeah, you couldn't do anything with the team that drafted you......in your case Johnny, that just means staying sober.....so it's just a given you'll be a success in Dallas.

I'm talking back-ups. Romo is gonna try to play the next 2 years.

Orton was a tool but he was a good fill-in.

I look at it like there are 4 teams we have to worry about. SF, Cleveland, San Diego and Philly They are all in the hunt for a better pick and are going to go after a QB. The good news is that even if we get the #1 overall pick somehow and do select a QB, I think with a healthy Romo (knock on wood) and some quality offseason moves to improve our secondary and get some more speed at LB, we could still contend for the Super Bowl in 2016.

But, the issue is that if we do get a young QB, we are probably best off keeping Garrett for another 3-4 years since I don't want my young QB switching playbooks and offensive schemes early in his career. Although I don't think a scheme change is actually necessary, just making some adjustments to the motioning of the WR's to create some mismatches and/or switch things up to get players like Dez going and some more creative and balanced play calling.

If anything, Romo didn't look like his old self before re-injuring his clavicle, even in the Miami game. It goes to show at that age how injuries really affect your performance even after being healed. Hopefully Jerry can put down the Johnny Walker Blue for a second and understand this.

LB and RB in the first two rounds, with the player determined by the draft board. Maybe a WR. QB in the 3rd or 4th round.

3 qb's are projected in the top 10. Pretty sure we draft in top 5. QB all the way.

We have to use this opportunity for a new QB. Have to. Romo will likely give us another year. Maybe not a whole one. So we'll probably have a decent record until he retires--meaning this chance won't come again

However, that QB will be completely ruined under Garrett. He will be developed to be a bus-driver of a conservative team.

I think Garrett can scout a good QB (he was high on Dalton) but his offense and game-day philosophy will coach the talent out of any decent prospect

Carson Wentz, second round. Ramsey first round. Need to a legit backup now. This sux for Romo. I hope he breaks out next year and gets to hold up that Lombardi.

Im all for this, but I do have to say I dont know of Wentz is a legit back up right now. Of we land Wentz I might go out and get a Matt Moore to serve aa #2 for the year

I think the early 2nd round will be a sweet spot for QBs this year and could really work in our favor if we either want to draft one in the the first or take a guy like Jalen Ramsey. I could see guys like Wentz, Keil, Brissett going in the top of the 2nd. A team at the top may decide to pass on a Lynch or Goff and go with Bosa or Tunsil and take one of those guys at the top of the 2nd

Tony will retire at the end of the season. We will keep Cassel, Jerry will give the browns some peanuts for JF, and we'll draft a blue chipper with our top five pick. One of those 2 will take the job from Cassel over the next 2 seasons. Meantime we add pieces to the defense, then we're ready for the big dance. OK, maybe a coaching change or 2.
