Amazing that there's almost as many left from the Parcells' era (3) as from the Phillips' era (5).

I loathed the hiring of Phillips and have grown to hate it even more as the seasons pass.

I agree with your loathing of the Phillips hire. At the time I felt as if Jerry was overcompensating for the strictness of Parcell's style with a grandpa-like leader. It may have worked in the 90s but Jerry failed to factor in how players have evolved over the years.

That was the first thing that jumped out at me as well. I was not thrilled about Phillips either, but oh well....

Going to be interesting to see how many DPs are kept from 2012 (2 of which are Mo). Only Tyron from 2011, that's not fantastic, but at least Tyron is potential Hall status.

I hated the Phillips HC hire, but wanted the Phillips as DC hire at the time. Remember Big Bills 3-4 defense?

I was afraid that was the direction Jerry was going to go leading up to his hire. It seemed like we were taking a step back in my book to the post Jimmy Johnson years.

the Phillips hire wasted Demarcus Ware's career. Bottom line is for that only Jerruh needs to burn. And it could very well in the end waste Tony Romo's and Jason Witten's careers as well. But at least those two have a shot for another year or two.

Hiring Wade might have been the biggest mistake the Jerry ever made.

Wade ruined the team mentality with a complete lack of discipline and accountability.

Garrett with help from McClay had to get rid of all of the bad attitudes that were allowed to develop during Wades tenure.

I always saw it as wanting to get a 3-4 defensive coordinator and essentially giving Phillips the head coach title in name only. Jones knew that he could effectively cut the duties in half between Phillips on defense and Garrett on offense. And Phillips - being an easy going enough guy desperate for another head coaching job - would be fine with going along with that structure.

The thing that drove me crazy as much as anything else at that time was the amount of 'status quo' that was happening. Other than Jerry chasing infamous 'names' like Pacman Jones and Tank Johnson, the team seemed to do little in terms of roster shuffling and beating the bushes with tryouts.

The idea was that our offense was pretty good and getting stronger, we just needed someone to come in and give us that over-the-edge attack on defense mentality. What I remember, though, is the very first game Phillips coached where the offense completely out performed the defense. That was kind of a theme throughout his tenure. That and not churning the roster very well.

Right now, they are making decisions on the class of 2012. Do they wish to keep Morris Claiborne, Tyrone Crawford, Kyle Wilber, James Hanna, Lance Dunbar, Ron Leary, and Cole Beasley past this season?

You know, if you were to switch Crawford with Claiborne, this draft class wouldn't look so terrible.:p

I hated the Wade hiring from Day One, and got pounded for it on the message boards. He's not a leader of men.

Garrett isn't the greatest coordinator, but he's a very good head coach because he can get people to follow him. He's the CEO type, like Jimmy in a way but with Landry's demeanor. It's a personality thing.

Linehan and Marinelli failed miserably as head coaches, but they are excellent coordinators. Garrett is the opposite.

Wow Tyron SMith is the only remaining player from the 2011 draft, that's pretty sad. Although Murray, Carter and Harris are still players in the league, I guess that it just shows discipline that we let them go.

I am a huge fan of the head coach who lets his coordinators coordinate. The moment Garrett did that the team started succeeding. I am not sure Linehan is the highest quality OC ever to live, but he's a fulltime OC and allows Garrett to be a full time head coach. THat's important.

You hit the key point. Discipline. That was actually an excellent draft when you see the production from those four while they were here together.

Drafting well keeps you from getting old across your roster, and old players get hurt. Dallas used up Murray, and Carter and Harris were wildly overpaid in free agency. Still have no idea what the Giants are thinking, though Harris is valuable.

7 of the 22 starters on O and D are not from Garrett's era which is still a big percentage. Having said that I think Garrett's drafting has been really good. I could see him being a GM someday which IMO he would be great at.

To be fair to Wade... He really didn't get to hire his own staff so it's Jerry's fault more than Wade.

Until last year, we hadn't seen a team in Dallas play as good as his 2007 and 2009 teams did.

Under Garrett, until last year, all we did was invent ways to lose with sloppy sloppy football.

I don't know if either player was really overpaid. Carter is worth the 4.5 million/year cap hit so long as he stays healthy for a team like the bucs. He isn't a superstar but he does alright in the passing game.

Harris is likely overpaid by some, but he is fantastic on special teams. He is just never going to be a full time offensive player.

I'm glad we didn't sign those guys, but they will certainly bring value to their clubs. I'm mostly worried about how we are going to replace Harris, but I think McCray will help with that.
