Amazing that there's almost as many left from the Parcells' era (3) as from the Phillips' era (5).
I loathed the hiring of Phillips and have grown to hate it even more as the seasons pass.

Yea, I much prefer the Stephen/McClay drafts compared to the Wade/Groper drafts.Amazing that there's almost as many left from the Parcells' era (3) as from the Phillips' era (5).

I was afraid that was the direction Jerry was going to go leading up to his hire. It seemed like we were taking a step back in my book to the post Jimmy Johnson years.I loathed the hiring of Phillips and have grown to hate it even more as the seasons pass.

I agree with your loathing of the Phillips hire. At the time I felt as if Jerry was overcompensating for the strictness of Parcell's style with a grandpa-like leader. It may have worked in the 90s but Jerry failed to factor in how players have evolved over the years.
I always saw it as wanting to get a 3-4 defensive coordinator and essentially giving Phillips the head coach title in name only. Jones knew that he could effectively cut the duties in half between Phillips on defense and Garrett on offense. And Phillips - being an easy going enough guy desperate for another head coaching job - would be fine with going along with that structure.
The thing that drove me crazy as much as anything else at that time was the amount of 'status quo' that was happening. Other than Jerry chasing infamous 'names' like Pacman Jones and Tank Johnson, the team seemed to do little in terms of roster shuffling and beating the bushes with tryouts.
Right now, they are making decisions on the class of 2012. Do they wish to keep Morris Claiborne, Tyrone Crawford, Kyle Wilber, James Hanna, Lance Dunbar, Ron Leary, and Cole Beasley past this season?
I hated the Wade hiring from Day One, and got pounded for it on the message boards. He's not a leader of men.
Garrett isn't the greatest coordinator, but he's a very good head coach because he can get people to follow him. He's the CEO type, like Jimmy in a way but with Landry's demeanor. It's a personality thing.
Linehan and Marinelli failed miserably as head coaches, but they are excellent coordinators. Garrett is the opposite.
Wow Tyron SMith is the only remaining player from the 2011 draft, that's pretty sad. Although Murray, Carter and Harris are still players in the league, I guess that it just shows discipline that we let them go.
Hiring Wade might have been the biggest mistake the Jerry ever made.
Wade ruined the team mentality with a complete lack of discipline and accountability.
Garrett with help from McClay had to get rid of all of the bad attitudes that were allowed to develop during Wades tenure.
You hit the key point. Discipline. That was actually an excellent draft when you see the production from those four while they were here together.
Drafting well keeps you from getting old across your roster, and old players get hurt. Dallas used up Murray, and Carter and Harris were wildly overpaid in free agency. Still have no idea what the Giants are thinking, though Harris is valuable.
