Cowboys receiver Terry Glenn cited for public intoxication

11:20 AM CST on Saturday, December 31, 2005
By JAY PARSONS / The Dallas Morning News

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terry Glenn was cited for public intoxication late Friday night after urinating on a trash dumpster in West Oak Cliff, Dallas police said. Mr. Glenn, who is expected to play in the Cowboys final regular season game Sunday night against the St. Louis Rams, was released to a friend at the scene. The incident occurred outside a Jack in the Box restaurant on the 1300 block of North Hampton Road.

Cowboys spokesman Rich Dalrymple said Saturday morning that the team would have no comment on the matter. James Gould, Mr. Glenn's Ohio-based agent, said he was unaware of the incident and would have no immediate comment.

When you gotta go....you gotta go! Right Terry?

I hate it when people play the race card like that. If black people don't want to be thought of as "suspicious" stop dressing like a thug who is about to get in a street gang fight.

Wow....

I dont even know what to say about this.

And West Dallas is not the Ghetto...im from Oakcliff and Dallas doesnt have Ghettos like you see in Chi-Town and South L.A. Poor sections and Dallas has led the nation in crime 2 years straight, but no Ghettos like you have in South L.A. and Chi-Town. I would say the closest we have is Off of Hatcher Street, BonTon Area and Dixon Circle in South Dallas.

Still dumbfounded by the above statement....

And I bet you aint never step foot in Oakcliff or any other so called "Ghettos" in Dallas.

I know, but I hear people say all the time that the police are racist because they always pull over "black" people. Here's a hint: They arent stopping you because you are black, they are stopping you because you look like you are up to no good. Put a white guy out in clothes like that, acting like that, he will get the same treatment.
Bull crap.

You might not like hearing the so-called race card played.

While I don't freaking like having it played on my husband, an Ivy League educated engineer who has never worn a 'do-rag', gold chains or clothes too tens sizes too big, but has been stopped numerous times, once even questioned in front of his own house' what are YOU doing in this neighborhood?"

Maybe Dallas is more enlightened than Rhode Island, where the state gov recently published a long term study backing up the suspicions - that people of color are stopped far more often yet are found with LESS contraband than white drivers...but I think not.

I highly recommend the Shopshire book on Tuna, and the section on the Dallas police and Michael Irvin.

I don't wanna go off on you HH, but you've complained about the 'race card' one too many times for me to hold my tongue any longer.

Til you've walked in a black man's shoes, you just don't know.

As for TG, shame on him. But I have my suspicions about any 'off-duty' officer hell bent on cuffing ANYONE taking a leak against a dumpster  .

Compared to Harlem or the South side of LA, no, Dallas doesnt have a "ghetto" persay. But West Dallas is as Ghetto as it gets in Dallas.

And sorry that you are dumbfounded, but its the truth.

Get a sense of humor.

the crux of your joke was why was he not at ruth chris' steak house.

i get the money connection. i get the attempt at high brow humor. tee hee.

but it wasn't open so in reality it wasn't an option but rather someone making sterotypical jokes that couldn't work in the reality of which they were presented.

get funny.

What stereotype? IF you didn't think it was funny so be it. Big deal. But now you are going off on some moral high horse. And since you want to be anal about it, why was the guy drunk in the first place 2 days away from potentially the biggest game of the year? Why was he urinating in public. It's against the law. Think maybe that's funnier? There is the reality.

Bwahahahahahahaha! Oh wait, that ain't funny.

First of all, I've fairly certain this is the first time I've brought this up on this board.

And I'm not saying there arent racist police officers, because I know there are and have seen them in the act. I played basketball in HS, and on more than one occasion I was out with them (mostly black) and we were stopped and questioned by an officer and noone was acting suspicious in the least. However, on the whole, I seriously doubt there is a conspiracy to hold the black man down.

I really can't blame a cop for questioning a black person, Mexican person, White person, etc. just because of how they are dressed and acting, considering that, as bad as this might sound, people dressed like that ARE involved in more crime than other groups, especially in Dallas where crime is so very high.

I don't want you to get the wrong idea and think Is support racism or anything, because I certainly do not. I'm saying that the people who are often complaining about police racism are younger blacks/hispanics who are trying to be "gangster" and dont like it when they are thought of as suspicious.

Wait, that can't be funny because it was reported that the dorrs were probably locked. So there can be no way that could be funny according to some.

That's right. Why sio defensive?

Where am I 'limiting" here? The implication was folks who wear do-rags deserve to be hassled. I say that's hog wash.

I know one thing..it all works out in my household.

Because I have been driving for 25 years and NEVER gotten a ticket.

Last time I was stopped was for driving thru a red light, passing on the right, speeding, and not wearing a seat belt. But since I was on my way to work to the school where our officers do their criminal justice degrees, I got a pass. And a ton of smiles, and jokes.

Walk in the shoes of a middle-aged white woman college professor sometime.

I'd have to shoot the President to get cuffed.

i'm just being my usual sarcastic self man. you pick odd times to take me seriously.

i'm not being anal on whether or not he was stupid, just whether or not the comment was funny. if you're gonna "return fire" fine then i deserve it. but at least keep it to what i actually did say.
