What ? Did Time Warner buy Comcast ???

No it stems from a partner ship deal they had Time Warner took the debt so they got to pick the markets they kept. Thje subscriber base was the same amount of numbers but Time Warner took Dallas and Sain Louis + some more small markets and gave comcast Houston

nyc, like Houston said above, you are confusing the Sunday Ticket with NFL Network. Yes, the Ticket is available only on DirecTv, and yes, it is expensive. But they paid up for the rights, and they have the right to charge whatever they like for it -- and no one is forced to pay for it.

NFL Network, on the other hand, is just a channel that shows highlights, has interviews, etc. Dish Network and several other cable systems carry it -- Time Warner is one of the few that refuses to.

I cant imagine that most if not all other cable providers would be carrying the NFL network if the NFL was trying to over charge them for it. Especially considering it is a new network trying to get viewers, while competing with giants like ESPN and FoxSports, it wouldnt make sense to try and charge a premium for the channel. As for DirectTv and the Sunday ticket for a few hundred bucks to be able to watch 14 games a week for 17 weeks isnt a bad deal. Its like $1 per game if you break it down, hardly price gauging when you consider the market. Look at the dollars people chuck each month for Wrestling and other gay shows on pay per view.

TW wants to add it as a sports tier not basic cable. The NFL wants it as a basic cable channel. They are arguing over $.70 per users basically.

BTW, don't get me wrong. I hate Cable companies too! I protect them in no way, but the NFL Network problem is caused my the NFL. Not the cable companies.

if that were true TW wouldn't be virtually on an island by themselves.

other cable companies have nfl network for no extra charge. if the nfl was railroading them, they wouldn't offer the channel either.

but they do.

TW is trying to make an extra buck, and it's BS.

Part of TW's argument is really dumb, saying that they want it on a sport tier because it would not be fair for all subscribers to have it if they don't want it. Well guess what, I really don't care for QVS, MSN shopping channel, the Catholic channel or any of the other religous channel, plus many others.

Thats a really good point, maybe someday we will be able to pick the channels to make up our own packages.

I still think the problem here is political between Ted Turner and the NFL. Recall that Turner is the man behind AOL/Time Warner.

TNT used to carry Sunday Night NFL games before ESPN about 10 years ago. Turner got outbid for Sunday Night football, and he is essentially giving the middle finger to the NFL for getting jacked on the deal.

solid point.

he's gonna let his pride drive away customers, though.

Time Warner is so cheap, it's not even funny, they own the Atlanta Braves, but only allow them an 80 mil payroll, they own TBS too, and all they play is Seinfeld re-runs and show movies, no originality whatsoever, cheap-arses all the way around

I've had the misfortune to live for years in an area with little choice other than Time Warner. Monopoly position breeds a certain corporate arrogance. Also worked for a small company that was essentially run out of business by TW, even though the company had valid contracts with them. TW just changed all the rules, and didn't live up to their end. The only recourse was to sue, which would have cost too much and killed the company as well. Anything that pains TW, I am pretty much in favor of. Go NFL!

Sure, but does he have 51% of the voting rights there? He could be totally against it, but he may have been outvoted. At AOL/Time Warner, he has all the stroke.
