With some Larry Allens as backups. We need a line full of Erik Williams.

We just need olinemen that can block and be effective. Will the Cowboys and OL coach Joe Philibin prefer more the Packer type OL ?
Whether FA, trade or NFL draft - - it bears watching how we acquire OLinemen under Joe Philibin.
so will we target more Packer like Olinemen ?
Looking at past GB Packers OL trench-men, that seems to be the formula.
More so the finesse, tacticians and zone scheme oriented guys instead of power oriented anchor types.?
Josh Sitton
TJ Lang
Jeff Saturday
Bryan Bulaga
David Bakhitian
Corey Lindsley
Now looking at their resumes, these GB guys have been to Pro bowls, but while it worked for the Rodgers
era, can those types work best here with the Cowboys ?
What also may be important is how long will the McCarthy- Philibin be around past 2022.
Is it best to target OL guys that are versatile to fit any scheme and with any coach ?
AR and great play calling helped the OL.
A comparison.
Nate Newton said their OL were a bunch of nobody's until Emmitt came a long (with Irvin and Troy) then they became pro bowlers and all pros.
When Barry Sanders came to Detroit, he already had 2 all pro OL in place. they drafted an OL that became an all pro.
Emmitt made the Dallas OL. Barry already had one.
Anyway, this is not about that. Just saying sometimes an elite QB can make the OL seem better.
Mahommes OL in the SB were not that good, and TB exposed them, and Mahommes could not do it on his own. As of late, neither can AR.
But we seen how our OL in 2014, 2016 really did help the offense.
90’s ol was the best ever. They all knew we were going to run Emmit and there was nothing that they could do about it. Pure Smashmouth football. That’s when we had real Dogs on the whole dam team, today not so much. The Cowboys continued to build the offensive line in the 1990s. Allen and Erick Williams were not on the OL at first. They were added later., Williams in 1991 and Allen in 1994.
Building the Cowboys offensive line of the 1990s was a pretty remarkable
Mark Tuinei was signed as a UDFA by the Cowboys in 1983. He played DT in college and with the Cowboys in 1983 and 1984. He switched to offensive line in 1985. After working at multiple positions on the OL he stuck at OT in 1986. After a short stint back at DT due to injuries, he was named the starting LT for Dallas and stayed their until he retired.
Nate Newton was originally signed by the Washington Football Team as an undrafted free agent. He was cut in training camp then signed by the Tampa Bay Bandits of the USFL. When the USFL collapsed he signed with Dallas as a free agent in 1986.
Kevin Gogan was drafted by the Cowboys in 1987 in the 8th round. He left the Cowboys as a free agent in 1994, the same year they drafted Larry Allen. How fortunate for Dallas to get Allen just as Gogan was exiting.
Mark Stepnoski was drafted by Dallas in the 3rd round in 1989.
John Gesek was traded to Dallas in 1990. He was originally a 10th round pick in 1987 by the Raiders.
Erik Williams was drafted by the Cowboys in the 3rd round in 1991.
Larry Allen was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1994 draft by the Cowboys.
I give Jimmy Johnson credit for assembling all the players. The previous 10 years the Cowboys drafted quite a few offensive linemen but most were JAGs. Of course Landry gets credit for Tuinei and Newton. Credit Johnson for keeping them when Jerry bought the team.
I'll give that an amen brother and add a Larry Allen to that just for some brute horsepowerWe need a line full of Erik Williams.
I agree. I want a huge, physical line with bad attitudes and a mean streak. I want defenses to fear the Cowboy line like they did in the 90’s.We need a line full of Erik Williams.
Clearly we're trying to reduce resources spent on the oline. With Collins gone, we're down to two olinemen who are getting paid. Haven't done squat in free agency to backfill WIlliams . Only spent 4ths in the draft since McCarthy got here for "guys who dropped for issues".
I expect an earlier G pick this year, 1st or 2nd, to replace Williams, then another olineman who dropped later in the draft.
I'd say we're making Biadasz work. If Ball can at least be a decent swing, he's another win.
Does your first statement in this post have some type of bearing on anything? I haven't read all the posts, but I don't think it's relevant to the one you're quoting. All the players on your list are white...
Saturday only played 1 season for GB and that was less than 16 games. It was his final season in the NFL.
Corey Lindsley is the only one on that list other than Saturday that is 'small-ish'.
I was thinking that too.Sure, I’d love it if our OL held on every play but never got called for it…just like GB
What difference does it make what color the player is? Once that uniform goes on they are all Cowboys. I don't care if there pinkAll the players on your list are white...

I think we should try Farniok in the center , Biadazz may not be cutting it. He is like Williams getting pushed back to QB , Farniok appeared to be more stable as well in the run game was pushing out the bodies.
it was a double whammy last year , all defenses know to attack center and LG and that ruined the run game , Zeke didnt help also.
From a bigger picture standpoint,
I think if Dallas could operate anywhere near as efficiently as GB while being down to your 3rd option at LT...or was it 4th?
If Philbin, Dak and Moore could pull that off then get back to me, lol.
finesse, tacticians and zone scheme sound like soft, soft and soft. We're already soft, on both sides of the ball. Can't run block. Pass pro. is weak and we get run over on defense. One of the softest teams on the league. The OL/DL from old used to punch people in the mouth and take names the entire season. We're so used to mediocre now, it's a shame. Will the Cowboys and OL coach Joe Philibin prefer more the Packer type OL ?

Doug Free was extremely underrated by everyone here. He was one fifth of a great offensive line.It wasn't all roses, as we've had some hits and misses between that era.
- While we had All Pros such as Martin, Tyron, we've also had Doug Free on his last legs but fortunately backup Jeremy Parnell filling in admirably ..
and Ron Leary as a one year wonder. but who could ever forget the disaster that was Chaz Green vs ATL (5 sacks in one lone game ?)
LG has been a long standing problems and misses with Jonathan Cooper, Conner Williams and Conner McGovern..and remains so.
- Fredrick no doubt would've been a possible HOF'er had he not been struck with the Guillain Baree' syndrome, and forced to retire.
Like LG, center has also been an adventure.
- Coaching plays heavily into OL play as well,..Pollack coached the 2016 era, but was made the scape goat for the Chaz Green fiasco and was replaced with
Cincy former OL coach Paul Alexander who frustrated his OL unit so much that he was actually fired mid-season and replaced with asst coach Marc Columbo.
- Ironically Pollack was not re-signed by Cowboys, ended up taking Alexander's OL coach role in Cincy, en route to a SB game.
Columbo's last year here in Dallas, produced a unit that was 2nd in the entire NFL in fewest sacks allowed, and 5th in NFL in rushing.
Yet he was not re-signed and replaced by McCarthy's longtime buddy and asst. Joe Philibin.
