Contrast ratio isn't really all that important. Because theres really no sure way to measure contrast ratio, companies just measure how they want and come up with some astronomical numbers like 100,000:1.
Not sayin that it isn't important at all but I wouldn't chose a 1000-2000 dollar TV based on it. Go with what looks best to you is what I think.[/QUOTE]

I halfway agree with you...

I got a 50" Plasma Vizio and it's picture is great. It's not the best out there, but plenty good enough to showcase.

I have found one issue with my Plasma, it's like having a dearborn heater on all the time. Good grief, I knew they put off a lot of heat but damn, it was in the mid 70's today and it got flat out hot in the TV room even with the windows open.
I took the Samsung 50" Plasma back and got a 47" Hitachi LCD 1080p. I am a much happier camper now.

I bought a 42" LCD Westinghouse last weekend. It's 1080p and I got it for under $1,000 before tax and service plan. Thought that was a deal that was worth it even if it wasn't a Samsung or Sony, etc.

Anyways, I haven't gotten HD through cable yet, but the 360 looks great. Happy so far.

Bang for you buck, I don't think Vizio can be beat. Sure, its not the tip-top of the line but my 37'' LCD looks amazing. XBOX 360, HD-DVD Player and HD Cable box all look great. Only regret is that I didn't go bigger.

Flipping through the HD channels and came across the NHL Network in HD, amazing how much better hockey is when you can see the puck.:D

That was a very important consideration for me when I decided to purchase my HD. This time of year would suck for me without hockey. I can't watch the NBA anymore, the NFL combine and draft buzzes only last a week or so for me, and it takes me a few months to warm up to MLB.

Alexander the 8 owns. Go Caps!

Personally I've never been able to stand hockey but I found myself actually getting into it watching it in HD.
