Do these moves indicate a new beginning?

Like some said this isnt a new direction or even rebuilding. You don't rebuild in the modern NFL. Worst to first and first to worst happens every year.

This is simple. Ware isn't a true DE at his age and size combined with a salary cap issue and his high salary means he isn't around.

The cheaper players that will be signed are not expected to be an improvement to Ware. They are warm experienced bodies who will be asked to just not blow it.

Jerry really doesn't have much of a choice at this point. He is going into this season with the same hope that most teams have. That we can have a shot to make the playoffs at the end and then hope for the best.
This is the modern day NFL.

The rebuild has been going on for a few years. Romo's deal has nothing to do with that. You don't just let Franchise QBs go in the NFL.

The cap problems are overblown and the turn around can be a quick one. If they go heavy in the draft and FA on defense they can improve a lot. Ware and Austin added very little last year and are not returning to the old selves.

They are doing what everyone around here says is the right way to build a team and they still get killed for it.

  • Not one starting caliber d-line man.
  • Maybe one safety. Maybe
  • One good linebacker when he's healthy.
  • Two very overpaid and very mediocre corners. Nickel CB is pretty good.
  • 3-4 pretty good o=linemen but you need 7
  • An amazing baller HOF Tight End who's wheel are about to fall off
  • Litte depth at WR
  • No depth at QB
  • Starting QB highly unlikely to sustain high caliber play with age and faltering back
  • Coaches mediocre, in conflict. Undermined.
  • An owner/GM with dementia who spends 15 hours per week max of his his alcohol addled brain-power on team...you hope
Yup...it's looking up for 'dem Cowboys!

We'll probably try to fill defensive holes with the first few picks and "groom" a mid-round pick at quarterback. That never works. So be prepared for about decade more of mediocre to bad play.

It's got me close to walking away from here for good.

You can call me a homer all you want but there's a reason for these moves. I think the Jones' realize that to win in today's NFL you need a stud QB and to control the line of scrimmage both offensively and defensively. So let's see what they've done recently:

QB: They believe they have a stud QB capable of winning the SB and they locked him up long term.

OL: 1st rd draft picks on Tyron Smith who looks like Pro Bowl lock and Fredrick who has gotten off to a great start and looking like a future stud. When was the last time Dallas spent 1st rd picks on the Oline? They also spent a lot of money (Free, Livings, Berny, Waters). Obviously not every move has worked but you see the plan.

DL: They thought they had it set on the DL. Spencer and Ware looked like one of the best DE pair in the League. Hatcher was a natural fit in the 4-3 and they also had good young guys in Brent, Crawford, Bass. Well then Brent was a dumba$$, Spencer, Ware Crawford, Bass got hurt. Spencer, Ware, Hatcher are all 30s and like everyone on this board knows, 30 year olds on the DL are not the way to dominate the line. That is why Spencer, Hatcher, Ware are all gone.

So having said that, none of this should be a surprise to people. The only surprise I see is that they have actually stuck to the plan. Expect to see Dallas invest their cap room on the DL (I'm looking at you Melton) and their picks on the DL/OL (Donald, Jerrigan, Nix, Ford, Critchen, OGs,).

This isn't a rebuild, this is a retooling. As you can see from Seattle all you need is a good draft and a couple good FAs. It's all part of their plan. They just need to execute it.

People assume it takes forever to rebuild. How long did it take the Seahawks? The 49ers?
