Do we have something in Marc Colombo?

While he wasn't completely perfect he did hold Peppers in check and showed that he wasn't intimidated by him at all.

I liked his play and the play of the entire offensive line.

Colombo crime family did very well last night, he just needs to bring it every weekend.

I think his incosistent play is due to not playing a lot of football the past few years.

Also Bledsoe may have had a little to do with it as well.

He was a 1st round pick so its not like the guy doesn't have talent. You give him some time and let him get back in the groove and he may be a really good player for us.

Honestly with the ****** slapping he was giving Peppers... it was like seeing "Big E" out there again vs. Reggie White.

What he really needed was not having Bledsoe behind. Last week's sacks were on Bledsoe, not Colombo.

There isn't a RT in the league who can properly pass protect for Drew Bledsoe. His release is simply too slow, and he holds the ball way too long.

It's amazing how a player like Colombo can look so horrible one week, and then suddenly look much better the next with a simple change at QB. He no longer has to hold his block for 5-10 seconds. 3 seconds, and the ball is out.

It makes the RT's job much easier. Peppers took the outside rush, and would have killed Colombo if Bledsoe was standing back there. But Romo had the ball gone before Peppers took his 5th step.

Strahan beat Colombo last week in getting a sack on Romo as well. Colombo had made his share of mistakes. He played very well last night and I credit him for that

Correct.

But Eddie I hope you have some love for Romo... you were pretty tough on the guy last week and Romo came out and manned up. Now it's you're turn to man-up my friend. ;)

it appears with motivation, repetition and a smart QB he can be very effective.

i would throw out the grades for our entire ROSTER thru 6 games and start fresh. the switch was that significant.

I'll go one better...

I thought that was the best game for a RT on this team for several years.

columbo also had help on many of the plays. i liked his nastiness though, as long as he doesn't get caught jabbing the DE in the face. guy acts like he doesn't take crap from anybody.

Allowing one sack against Strahan is tolerable.

QB's and OL "protect" each other. It's truly a team sport and no position is an island-- even kicker.

In 1991 Norv came in and shortened the pass patterns to take advantage of Troy's arm and accuracy on intermediate passes and deep outs while minimizing the time his OL had to block. This, along with some great running from Emmitt Smith, helped turn a group of rejects and converted DL into one of the best OL's of all time.

Every OL needs their skill players to play well and vice-versa. I'm excited about this season again; thanks Mr. Romo.

He had some mental errors when Bledsoe was in, like blocking down and letting Strahan have free run, Romo would of gotten slammed also.

Hopefully this unit starts to build some cohesion.

Nevermind that blocking down was his assignment.

I think the problem with our OL, to a great extent, is that they never were able to just lock up and block the guy in front of you. They always new that they had to be perfect with Bledsoe. They knew that they were going to see a lot of blitz packages from everybody they played. In a nut shell, they over thought the whole thing. Against the Giants, the issues with Columbo were scheme related IMO. Block down on the Blitz pickup and let Gaps go free, IMO, is an example of this. I think Columbo read blitz and clocked down. Looked to me like he thought the TE had responsability for Strahan on that play but no matter. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if your OL believes that they can just go out and play rather then trying to be perfect, the results will probably be better. JMO.

Last night’s game? I agree he played tough against one of the best pass rushers this season. He did get called for hands to the face but for the most part he kept Peppers in check and was very physical in doing so

I can live with this kind of flag. It's an infraction of effort as opposed to mental error.
