Do we have something in Marc Colombo?

Correct.

But Eddie I hope you have some love for Romo... you were pretty tough on the guy last week and Romo came out and manned up. Now it's you're turn to man-up my friend. ;)

I agree. I did not believe. I'm slowly turning his way. If he gives me two more knock-out punches against the Skins and Cardinals ... then I'll be ready to hook up the BBQ.

I've simply been disappointed way too many times to jump in head first. But last night was a great start to this new marriage. Granted, I stopped watching by half time ... but I have the game on video and plan to get some extra salty popcorn tonight while I watch the game all over again. :)

Must be a great many of the goofs on this board don't listen to the Parcell's press conference or read any threads posted here.

This goof must of missed that one, having a life outside of the cowboys on this board will get you in trouble.

my bad.

Which BP comment? Parcells has come down on blocking assignments as well. I know your focusing on the comment about the sacks being on Bledsoe and in some cases that is true but some go on the line. If we are to believe Parcells he has made both statements this season in which he claimed mental break downs on the line as well as the recent that not all was the line. Which is ture? may be a bit of both?

I think the problem with our OL, to a great extent, is that they never were able to just lock up and block the guy in front of you. They always new that they had to be perfect with Bledsoe. They knew that they were going to see a lot of blitz packages from everybody they played. In a nut shell, they over thought the whole thing. Against the Giants, the issues with Columbo were scheme related IMO. Block down on the Blitz pickup and let Gaps go free, IMO, is an example of this. I think Columbo read blitz and clocked down. Looked to me like he thought the TE had responsability for Strahan on that play but no matter. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if your OL believes that they can just go out and play rather then trying to be perfect, the results will probably be better. JMO.
That play was explained by Babe Sunday morning. They were suppose to let Strahan go unblocked because of the numbers the Giants sent, they counteracted it by flooding an area of the field which made Glenn the hot read in the flat on Strahan's side. Bledsoe failed to read the play right.

Granted. History hasn't been kind to us when it comes to the QB position.

And yes I expect some "growing pains" with Romo but you know what Eddie?

I have "hope" for the first time in a long time. I seen a team last night that I think could beat any team in the NFC. Will they? Not necessarily but I think we would have a realistic chance against the Bears. I would have never thought that with Bledsoe.

I think his incosistent play is due to not playing a lot of football the past few years.

Also Bledsoe may have had a little to do with it as well.

He was a 1st round pick so its not like the guy doesn't have talent. You give him some time and let him get back in the groove and he may be a really good player for us.

Yeah Rivera referenced that too...
Colombo got up for the challenge... 1. because he knows his QB will move around and 2. He just got up for it

Kudos

I'm was talking about the play were Strahan was "let free" to pass rush Bledsoe... that was a designed play. That wasn't Columbo's fault.

Your correct. I did miss that. I would have assumed that you still would have chipped him with the TE but hey, what the heck, the bottom line to me is that it looks as if the OL is responding to Romo and vice versa. I'm more please with our OL play then I am with any other part of the teams efforts.

How much of the offensive line's improvement has to do with Romo's pre-snap reads? He seems to be very effective of pointing out defensive actions to his linemen before he ever snaps the ball.

I think Bledsoe has more to do with the bad OL play than any of the lineman. I have said it many times on here and I will again. If the QB does NOT make pre snap reads and adjust the blocking accordingly.. then the OL is at a disadvantage. If you noticed, ROMO was very active at the line, letting the line know what the D was doing,, you saw a lot fewer "mental" mistakes last night as a result. This OL can be good and will be. And if I remember correctly, Strahan didn't beat Columbo one on one for any sack last week. One he was free and other was a loop around stunt.. that DB held the ball for 6 seconds. Now on running plays he didn't school Columbo.. but not on pass plays.

Strahan beat Colombo last week in getting a sack on Romo as well. Colombo had made his share of mistakes. He played very well last night and I credit him for that

I like colombo very much and think he will grade very well this week. Yes he has had a few mental errors ( phili/giants) but overall i think we have found that RT that has escape us for a few years.

The OL is not as bad as people think. I think Rivera needs to be replaced next season with Flozell and Kosier. gurode and Columno are keepers for the next 4 years unless upgraded.

I agree. I like Colombo and hope he solves the RT issue for a good long time. I was happy with how he played Peppers last night but like any thing in sports it is about doing it week in and week out.

Colombo made some good strides last night, makes you wonder how much better he'll get because of not playing the past two years.....

He had some mental errors when Bledsoe was in, like blocking down and letting Strahan have free run, Romo would of gotten slammed also.

Hopefully this unit starts to build some cohesion.

Sorry, but that was also on Bledsoe. He was supposed to read the end (Strahan). If Strahan rushed free, then he was supposed to quick throw to the tight end who let him go (Fasano). If he dropped into coverage on Fasano, then Bledsoe was supposed to go through his reads. Bledsoe did not hit the hot man, and that caused the sack. Colombo blocked who he was supposed to block.

Yes, Eddie is the official site "contrarian" regardless of the issue. Fess up Eddie, Romo demonstrated ability in his first start. Yes, we all know the "well he needs to show this for the season" spiel, but you must admit on this night
Romo rocked your world!!! :):starspin:starspin:starspin

I think we have found our RT. We will get a couple of linemen in the offseason, but I think center and RT are set.

While he wasn't completely perfect he did hold Peppers in check and showed that he wasn't intimidated by him at all.

I liked his play and the play of the entire offensive line.

I would like to ask that question to Mr. Peppers today?
