Considered a top CB and man coverage player. However, never gets turnovers, still has a habit (rather it be coaching scheme or instinct) to not turn his head and play on aggressive enough.

So.... I ask.. Is he worth paying?

I really hate to say it. Let him go!!! Even if the new coaching staff can get more out of him. He doesn't scare opposing QB's. Not a turnover machine and plays just well enough to slide under the radar.

Also, in the "new" NFL. Pass rush is everything. Get to the QB and contain the outsides. A DB in the new NFL just needs a 2 1/2 second coverage ability with great pass rush to be successful.. Penalties and the way the game is now limits how impactful a high end DB really is to the scheme. Draft a DB in the 2nd round and start Awuzie and Lewis. Brown as a 4th DB with a draft pick, FA or fast LB as the slot/TE coverage back.

QB's don't throw to his side consistently for a reason. He simply doesn't allow many completions. The numbers always back that up.

I do agree however they did throw to him more than the stats show. We played to much zone coverage and it forced him to play the side of the field and not the man. However he still was horrible at turning his head to the ball.. Was that the coaching or his instinct?

The team loves him but if somebody breaks the bank he will be a, “Cap casualty.”

Easy answer.

No.

I think Byron is a very good player. You make him a good offer. The Cowboys arent good enough to just be letting defensive players walk away.

You never hear opposing WRs mention his name as an elite cover guy. Not worth big money, let him walk.

Keep him & let amari walk .

cooper leads in dropped passes, that should be enough for any sane mind .

I already answered this question.....few times ( check the OTHER threads) lol

You guys that say no are absolutely insane or don't understand the big picture! This guy is one of the top corners in the league and if the Cowboys don't sign him CB immediately becomes our overwhelming biggest need! Here's the alternative:

You draft a rookie in the first or second round and continue complaining about DT and safety. You enter the season with a rookie CB that you hope can fill the hole of Byron, or your starting #1 corner is Awuzie and your #2 is Jourdan Lewis. Congratulations we now have the worst secondary in a pass happy league & that's a recipe for a 4-12 season!!!!!!!!!!

This is why we need either Dak or Cooper to sign a damn contract - so we can franchise tag whoever doesn't sign and use the transition tag on Byron, let him test the market and match the offer (or hell - let Dak test the market since he seems to think he's worth a gazillion dollars & worst case we match).

We need to get Dak and Cooper signed so we can franchise Jones and trade him, we cant keep all 3!

Personally I’d keep Byron Jones over Cooper. Especially when you consider the depth of the WR position in this draft. Finding a CB to throw out there AND hold his own on day 1 ain’t easy. Rather re-sign Cobb and draft a WR.

If we're smart, yes.

Since Jerry runs the team, that's a no. We'll resign inconsistent Coop for the flashy plays that lead to Ls.

I never hear opposing wrs mention anyone as an elite cover guy.

but yeah he’s probably got to go. Mcclay didn’t sound too enthused when discussing him, and cornerbacks are unfortunately too high cost of a position w/ all we’ve shelled out and are facing.

CB is no more costly than what we'd be paying Cooper.
